7.5 year-old Maya reading Alice in Wonderland.
Reading is such an important part of the multilingual education of Maya, but it is not the most important one! Guess what is?

for babies please!

Los efectos de las pantallas en el cerebro en formación de los niños son tremendos: retraso del desarrollo lingüístico, alteración del sueño, peores habilidades cognitivas y emocionales etc...

Each language comes with its own challenges and advantages.
🇻🇳 Vietnamese, for example, is a tonal language, which makes it much more difficult to read and write than Spanish, where words are generally written as they are pronounced. On the other hand, Vietnamese has no verb conjugation: the verb remains unchanged regardless of tense or subject. ✌️

🇫🇷 French, however, is particularly challenging due to its spelling and its highly complex system of conjugation, which can be difficult to master not only for foreigners but even for native speakers. Many French people, for instance, would struggle to conjugate the verb “peigner” (to comb) in the passé simple for the second person plural: “vous peignâtes.” 😵‍💫

🙌🏻 Maya has learned to adapt to the unique features of each language she speaks, and this kind of mental flexibility is one of the undeniable advantages of being bilingual or multilingual.

Introduce your children to a second language from a very early age: there is no need, and it may even be counterproductive, to wait until they are older. PequeLingüe can support you on this journey, so don’t hesitate to get in touch!

🇬🇧I found this video dated from early 2024, so when Maya was 6.5 years old. She was still in her Disney Princesses phase (the one after Minnie Mouse phase that lasted for two years! 😵‍💫). It still amazes me to see her singing so fluently a song in her second (third?) language.
🎤🎶 Music is such a powerful tool for language learning and acquisition. I encourage every parent who is raising their kids in two languages to rely heavily on songs, no matter kids songs or just any song in the target language. Kids can perfectly remember more complicated lyrics than just those of the songs!

Never underestimate the brain of a child.

This video shows Maya reading French just a few months after she had decided to learn it, in order to be able to speak with her cousins in France.

In two years time she has done an impressive job learning French. So proud of her! 👏
