There was something magical about London's old buses…

The sound of the engine, the wooden floors, the breeze coming through the open back entrance… And that wonderful feeling of watching London go by from the top deck.

Había algo mágico en los antiguos autobuses de Londres…

El ruido del motor, los suelos de madera, el aire que entraba por la plataforma trasera abierta… Y esa sensación maravillosa de ver Londres pasar desde el piso de arriba.

They were noisy, probably far more polluting, and absolutely freezing in winter! But I wouldn't have swapped them for anything. There was something about that fresh air and the whole experience that modern buses just can't recreate.

Eran ruidosos, seguramente mucho más contaminantes y ¡en invierno hacía un frío tremendo! Pero yo no los habría cambiado por nada. Aquella sensación del aire circulando y toda la experiencia de viajar en ellos es algo que los autobuses modernos no consiguen reproducir.

🇬🇧 Jim was born in London, but I (Eugenia) spent 14 wonderful years living there, and that's where we met. I was lucky enough to catch the last years of those iconic Routemasters. The number 38 was my regular bus, and I still remember those journeys so fondly.

Jim nació en Londres, pero yo Eugenia, tuve la suerte de vivir allí durante 14 años, y fue donde nos conocimos. Todavía llegué a disfrutar de los últimos años de aquellos míticos Routemasters. El número 38 era mi autobús habitual, y aún recuerdo aquellos trayectos con muchísimo cariño.

I've always thought that one of the best ways to discover London is by bus. Forget the Underground for a while, grab a seat upstairs and just enjoy the city unfolding around you.

Siempre he pensado que una de las mejores maneras de descubrir Londres es en autobús. Olvídate un rato del metro, busca un asiento arriba y disfruta viendo cómo la ciudad va apareciendo ante tus ojos.

Hay lugares donde el inglés no es una asignatura. Es parte del trabajo. 🇬🇧
Estos días estamos en 🐟CONXEMAR Vigo, rodeados de empresas, profesionales y personas que trabajan en un sector profundamente internacional.
Aquí se habla de productos, mercados, logística, clientes, proveedores, exportación, acuerdos… y muchas veces, esas conversaciones ocurren en inglés.
Porque cuando estás hablando de negocios, no basta con “defenderse” en inglés. Hay que saber explicar lo que haces, entender lo que te están proponiendo, hacer las preguntas adecuadas y transmitir exactamente quién eres y qué representa tu empresa.
El idioma también comunica profesionalidad.
Y precisamente por eso nos interesa conocer de cerca los sectores, las personas y las situaciones reales en las que nuestros clientes utilizan el inglés.
No creemos demasiado en el one size fits all.
El inglés profesional debería adaptarse a la persona, a su trabajo y a lo que necesita conseguir con él.
CONXEMAR es un buen lugar para recordarlo.

🗣️🇬🇧 Have you ever heard of Speakers’ Corner?

Tucked away in the north-east corner of Hyde Park, there’s a place where, for more than 150 years, people have come to stand up, speak their minds and argue about pretty much anything. 😄

En una esquina del extremo noreste de Hyde Park hay un lugar al que, desde hace más de 150 años, la gente acude para subirse a una improvisada tribuna, expresar sus ideas y debatir sobre prácticamente cualquier cosa. 😄

The tradition goes back to the 1800s, when Hyde Park became an important meeting place for protests and political demonstrations. In 1872, Parliament formally established the right to hold public meetings and speak in the park.

La tradición se remonta al siglo XIX, cuando Hyde Park se convirtió en un importante punto de encuentro para protestas y manifestaciones. En 1872, el Parlamento estableció formalmente el derecho a celebrar reuniones públicas y hablar en el parque.

Over the years, people like Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin and George Orwell have spoken or spent time there, and the area also became an important meeting place for the Suffragettes.

A lo largo de los años, personajes como Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin y George Orwell pasaron por allí, y el lugar también tuvo un papel importante en las reuniones y manifestaciones de las sufragistas.

And the tradition is still alive today. On Sundays, you can still find people standing up on their little platforms, talking, debating, entertaining the crowd… and sometimes probably driving their listeners completely mad.

Y la tradición sigue viva. Los domingos todavía puedes encontrar personas subidas a sus pequeñas plataformas hablando, debatiendo, entreteniendo al público… y probablemente volviendo un poco loco a más de uno.

Gal Ru Art 2: A MODIÑO. Easy does it.🐂
Some things in Galicia have always been done ¨a modiño¨. Slowly. Steadily. One step at a time.

Hay cosas que en Galicia siempre se han hecho ¨a modiño¨. Despacio. Con calma. Paso a paso.

Although… looking at this man hauling two very determined oxen and a cart full of hay down a Galician hillside, we’re not entirely sure how ¨easy¨ it was.

Aunque… viendo a este hombre tirando de dos bueyes muy decididos y de un carro lleno de paja por una cuesta gallega, no estamos del todo seguros de que aquello fuese precisamente ¨easy¨. 😅

“A modiño” is one of those expressions that says more than its literal translation. It’s about not rushing, taking things calmly, and letting things happen at their own pace.

“A modiño” es una de esas expresiones que dicen mucho más que su traducción literal. Se trata de no tener prisa, hacer las cosas con calma y dejar que todo siga su propio ritmo.

And perhaps that’s not such a bad attitude when you’re learning English either.

Y quizá esa tampoco sea una mala actitud cuando estás aprendiendo inglés.

You don’t have to get every word right. You don’t have to speak perfectly. Just keep going. A modiño.

No tienes que acertar cada palabra. No tienes que hablar perfectamente. Simplemente sigue. A modiño.

Because at Jim’s Workshop, we believe confidence grows little by little — through practice, conversation, and actually enjoying the process.

Porque en Jim’s Workshop creemos que la confianza crece poco a poco: practicando, conversando y, sobre todo, disfrutando del proceso.

Los británicos no inventaron el fútbol, el té ni la monarquía.

But they did invent the school as we know it. The oldest school still standing, The King's School in Canterbury, has been running since 597 AD. That's fourteen centuries of uniforms, cold corridors and very strong opinions about correct grammar.

Pero sí inventaron la escuela tal y como la conocemos. El colegio más antiguo que sigue en pie, The King's School en Canterbury, lleva funcionando desde el año 597. Catorce siglos de uniformes, pasillos fríos y opiniones muy firmes sobre la gramática correcta.

No wonder they take their language so seriously.
No es de extrañar que se tomen su idioma tan en serio.

This September, take yours seriously too. But make it enjoyable.
