SAIIE

Since 1984, SAIIE has been hosting the study abroad program for UW-Platteville and students from all over the U.S. have been coming and studying in Seville.

The Spanish-American Institute of International Education (SAIIE) is a study abroad program foudned in Seville, Spain in 1984, affiliated to the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse Our goal is to help students to fulfill their potential, acquire knowledge, understand a new culture, and gain independence. In 2012 the SAIIE Soccer Program was founded. Since then, we have developed programs in Swimming, Basketball, Volleyball, Rowing, Water Polo and Rugby for both men and women. SAIIE gives students the chance to spend a semester, academic year, Summer or Winter session in the beautiful city of Seville, Spain! They can take classes in Business, Economics, Management, Marketing, Cultural Studies and Language, Spanish History, Spanish Language/Literature and Social Sciences. Study Sports Nutrition in Seville this Summer! 🇪🇸

This Summer Session II, SAIIE is offering ESS 460: Sports Nutrition and the Mediterranean Diet (3 credits).

Students will explore the relationship between nutrition, athletic performance, health, and the Mediterranean diet, with topics including diet analysis, hydration, supplementation, performance, and disease prevention.

The course will be taught by Visiting Professor Dr. Maria Morgan-Bathke of Viterbo University and offers students the opportunity to study nutrition while experiencing the Mediterranean lifestyle firsthand in Seville.

☀️🌊 A weekend by the coast!

Just a couple of weeks after arriving in Spain, our Fall 2026 students headed off together for a beach weekend—enjoying time outside Seville, exploring a new part of Spain, and making memories with their new friends. 🇪🇸

This is part of the SAIIE experience: studying, living with a Spanish host family, exploring Spain, and sharing the experience with students from across the U.S. and around the world.

SUMMER 2027 | SPORTS NUTRITION IN SEVILLE, SPAIN 🇪🇸

Interested in sports, nutrition, health, or human performance?

Spend part of your summer in Seville studying ESS 460: Sports Nutrition and the Mediterranean Diet - a 3 credit course taught in English.

Students explore the role of nutrition in health and athletic performance, including training diets, hydration and electrolyte balance, glycogen replacement, recovery, and nutrition strategies for athletes.

But the experience goes beyond the classroom. Students have the opportunity to connect what they learn with Spanish food culture and life in Seville, making the Mediterranean diet part of their everyday experience.
