Stative verbs describe a state rather than an action.
They often relate to thoughts, feelings, opinions, senses or possession. 💭
Some examples for stative verbs are: understand, agree, imagine, dislike, love and prefer.
They aren’t usually used in the continuous form.
However, some verbs can be both stative verbs or action verbs, depending on the context and their meaning.
e.g. have, be, see and taste ↔️
I have a dog. (possession)
I’m having lunch. (eating)
You’re so mean. (permanent quality)
You’re being mean. (temporary behaviour)
I see your point. (opinion)
We’re seeing a movie tomorrow. (watching)

Try tasting the soup before you add more salt. (action)
