" Absorption of the mind in supreme Consciousness
By realizing the Self in all objects
Is known as " pratyahara " , withdrawal of the mind.
This should be practiced by seekers of liberation." -Adi Shankaracharya -
"... A true withdrawal of the mind means that wherever the mind goes, you experience that it is resting in supreme Consciousness. If the mind thinks about a river, the river is supreme Consciousness. If the mind thinks about a piece of cake, the cake is supreme Consciousness. Wherever the mind may go, the fundamental principle is nothing but Consciousness.
This practice has to become constant for the experience to happen. So when you meditate with your eyes closed, it is in Consciousness, and when you meditate with your eyes open, it is still in Consciousness. In this way , you will not be troubled by your own mind... Everything is affected by your troubled mind. But if you understand that wherever the mind goes, it is in Consciousness, then you're no longer troubled.
