Second Leg of the Exchange.
We arrived in Berlin on Monday the 27th and spent there a marvellous week. On arriving our German brothers and sisters were there at the airport, eagerly waiting for us and ready to retake our friendship where we had left it.
On Tuesday we went on a tour round the city by boat, whereupon we headed for the Park-inn, something hardly suitable for those who suffer from Height-dizziness!! Afterwards we walked all the way up to the Brandenburger Tor, which lies close to the Holocaust Monument. After lunch we had a good stroll through the Gleisdreieck Park in the fashionable neighbourhood in Kreuzberg.
On Wednesday we attended classes. We went into the Spanish and English classes and also could attend some geography and history lessons, which the German teachers were so kind as to deliver in English.
On Thursday we visited Checkpoint Charlie and the Spy Museum and in the afternoon we threw a little party!
We were amazed at seeing how students could go around the High School with mobile phones. We were also impressed by their timetables, which encompass 45-minute lessons and a large number of brief breaks, so they can concentrate much better. No one ever called to attendance and they were all really polite to teachers and extremely knowledgeable.
We were sad to have to say good-bye on Friday but some of us have even contemplated taking up German lessons!
We'll always remember this enriching experience!
