Earlier this month, our MOVE-IT Research Group from the University of Cádiz took part in the 7th National Conference of SAMEDE in Jerez de la Frontera 🇪🇸 — an inspiring national meeting focused on Lifestyle, Exercise and Cancer.
🧠 Prof. David Jiménez-Pavón, senior researcher and president of the organising committee, played a key role throughout the conference — opening the event, moderating scientific sessions, leading the Body Composition and Cellular Quality Workshop, and delivering the talk “European Lifestyle & Exercise Programmes: From Cádiz to Europe”.
During his sessions, he also presented the YARN – European Youth Cancer Network, highlighting its goals in promoting healthy lifestyles and improving quality of life for young people living with and beyond cancer.
💪 Dr. Sonia Ortega and PhD candidate Mónica Toyos led the Exercise Workshop for Cancer Survivors, engaging participants in evidence-based physical activity sessions. Sonia also presented her oral communication “Vigorous Physical Activity and Mental Health: Lower Risk of Depression in Young Cancer Survivors”, developed within the OACCUs Project, emphasising the connection between exercise and mental well-being — one of YARN’s core pillars.
💬 Meanwhile, Mila Ogalla and Andrea Ruano from Youth Cancer Europe (YCE) shared their lived experiences in the Workshop on Physical Activity and Cancer, showing how movement, mental health, and social support are key to recovery.
Throughout the conference, MOVE-IT helped disseminate YARN’s mission — fostering collaboration between science, healthcare, and youth voices to build a healthier future across Europe.
