From the British Dyslexia Association:
Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty which primarily affects reading and writing skills. However, it does not only affect these skills. Dyslexia is actually about information processing. Dyslexic people may have difficulty processing and remembering information they see and hear, which can affect learning and the acquisition of literacy skills. Dyslexia can also impact on other areas such as organisational skills. Do you think your child is dyslexic? If so let me help…

Hi I’m Angela, born on 24th December 1941 in St Austell, Cornwall. I’m the eldest of 2 girls, my sister now lives in New Zealand. I always wanted to be a nurse, but instead became a tax officer, then an accounts clerk & bookkeeper. I met my husband David at 16, married at 21, and later had our son Andrew. When my husband became a lecturer in Uxbridge, I trained as an infant school teacher, gaining a distinction. While teaching, I noticed bright children struggling with reading & writing - including my own son. I was introduced to DYSLEXIA, a term I’d never heard before, and began my research. I retrained, funding myself to gain a postgraduate diploma in identifying & supporting children with specific learning difficulties (now called NEURODIVERGENCE) I realised many children weren’t ‘failing’ - they were being failed by the system. I founded the Hillingdon Dyslexia Association, appeared on TV and campaigned for recognition - highlighting how lack of diagnosis avoided responsibility for support. I later published 7 graded, multi sensory books, sold widely across the UK and internationally, while training teachers and lecturing to large audiences. Eventually, I became a private dyslexia consultant, until curriculum changes limited alternative teaching methods. At 70, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. After surviving and undergoing 5 major operations, I remain determined to support dyslexic families worldwide. All my work is dedicated to our son Andrew, who, despite challenges, achieved degrees in Fine Art and Philosophy.
