researchers delve into trust in a fragmented news environment. Focus groups conducted in Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States reveal that audiences trust experienced news media outlets that have demonstrated integrity over time. This research was commissioned by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism for the Digital News Report project, which the University of Navarra sponsors as an academic partner through its Center for Internet Studies and Digital Life (CISDL, ). CISDL researchers supported Kantar Media in organizing and supervising two focus groups in Madrid, where heavy news users said that traditional news brands are perceived as more resourceful in their coverage, and better known than digital-native sites. Accuracy and impartiality were the qualities valued best by participants. Sensationalistic 'clickbait', in the form of adjectives, errors and inaccuracies, generates distrust. Younger people and those who get their news from digital native and social media tend to trust the news less, according to this new qualitative study and the international survey published in June 2016.
