Meet the Team Wednesday 👋

This week, we’re introducing Mike, one of our Tutors & Mentors at Mallorca Tutoring Academy.

Mike brings a really interesting mix of experience to our team. With a degree in Psychology and Sociology, qualifications in Learning Mentoring and Advice & Guidance, and more than a decade supporting young people through the British education system, he has always been passionate about helping students feel encouraged, empowered and respected.

His journey has even taken him as far as Busan, South Korea, where he spent two years teaching English before returning to Spain — a country he has always loved.

Today, Mike combines his experience in education, mentoring and ESL teaching to support students through personalised learning, both online and in person.

What we particularly value about Mike is his belief that every student is on their own educational journey, with their own strengths, skills and potential to develop.

MONDAY EDUCATIONAL INSIGHT | EVERY CHILD LEARNS DIFFERENTLY

Why does something that works brilliantly for one student sometimes fail completely for another?

Perhaps one student responds well to seeing information. Another needs to talk it through. Another needs to practise, experiment and experience it before it makes sense.

But does that mean we should label students as visual, auditory or kinaesthetic learners?

Not necessarily.

At MTA, we believe the more important question is:

“What can we do to help this particular student learn more effectively?”

Understanding a learner isn't about putting them in a box.

It's about understanding their strengths, confidence, needs and barriers, adapting our approach and helping them become increasingly independent and confident learners.

Because personalised learning isn't about changing the curriculum for every child.

It is about putting the learner first.

🎨 Tutor Tip Tuesday: Colour is Key!

Did you know that colour can help you organise your learning?

Try using different colours for different types of information:

🔵 Blue – Key facts and important information
🟠 Orange – Things you need to remember
🟢 Green – Examples or explanations
⭐ Highlight – Anything you’re unsure about and need to revisit

The trick is not to colour everything — use colour strategically so your brain can quickly see what matters.

Make your notes work for YOU.
A little colour can make revision clearer, more organised and easier to remember.

Sofia, what an absolutely incredible journey you've had! From overcoming struggles with traditional methods at previous schools to completing your 6 IGCSEs in just one year! And also achieving incredible grades across the board. You've shown immense determination and resilience.

You transitioned to A-Levels and of course, it wasn't easy, but you faced every challenge head-on, and now you're just one step away from going to the uni of your choice; what a milestone!

Awarding you Student of the Year is our testament to your unwavering hard work, dedication, and the brilliant spirit you've brought to MTA.
