✨ A new school year. A bigger RWIS community.

As we get ready to welcome everyone back, we’re feeling especially excited about the year ahead. Our RWIS team has grown, with more than 10 new teachers and colleagues joining us alongside the familiar faces who make our school what it is.

And our community is growing too. This year, we’ll welcome more than 100 new students and their families to RWIS.

What does that mean? More ideas, more experiences, more connections, and even more opportunities to learn from one another.

Meet our new Head of School, Anders Hjelm! 🎉

With the new school year just one week away, we’re getting ready to welcome our students, families and new colleagues back to RWIS. And today, we’d like you to meet the person leading us into this new chapter.

Anders joins us after several years at another international school in Malmö. He brings more than 20 years of experience in international education and a truly global journey that has taken him from China and Cuba to Venezuela, Portugal, Bali and Sweden.

Now, Mallorca is home. 🏝️

Anders is very excited to get started, and we can’t wait for you to get to know him and the rest of our team.

A new school year. A new chapter. And lots to look forward to. 🌏✨

🎶 Celebrating “La Balanguera” ✨

On 29th May, our school joined over 200 schools across Mallorca in singing “La Balanguera”.

At 12:00, voices came together in a shared moment of music, culture, and community.

As an international school, we believe it is essential that students not only learn within Mallorca, but also learn from Mallorca 🌿

Understanding local traditions, language, and cultural heritage is part of how we help students feel truly connected to the place they call home.

“La Balanguera” itself is a traditional Mallorcan song that has become a symbol of the island, and this year it marked 100 years since its creation.

Being the only international school on the island taking part made the moment even more special.
And most importantly, our students didn’t just learn about it, they sang it together, proudly and joyfully 🎤

With more than 20 years of experience in international education across three continents, Anders brings a wealth of leadership experience, a global perspective, and a deep commitment to helping young people flourish.

As you get to know Anders, you will discover a leader who believes in listening first. Someone who values collaboration, open communication, and strong relationships. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with teachers, staff, students, and families to create school communities where people feel connected, supported, and empowered to contribute.

📅 Preschool FAQ #3: When does preschool start?
We’re continuing our Preschool FAQ series with another important question.

Our preschool starts on 2nd September.

During the first three days, we will run a gentle, slow introduction period to help children settle into their new environment with confidence.

Parents will also be welcome in the classrooms during this time, supporting a calm and gradual transition.

Before the start date, we will be in touch with all registered families so you can meet the teachers and begin getting to know us in advance.

👶 Preschool FAQ #2: How many children are in each group?
We’re continuing our Preschool FAQ series with one of the most common questions we receive.

Our classrooms are designed to stay small and intentional.

Each group will have a maximum of 16 children, supported by a class teacher and additional learning assistants throughout the day.

This allows us to keep learning personal, relationships strong, and each child truly seen.

🕣 What does a preschool day actually look like?
We receive many questions from you for our new preschool, so we’re starting a new series: Preschool FAQ.

In this first video, we walk you through our daily rhythm at RWIS Preschool: 08:00–16:30, with a calm morning arrival, learning time from 09:00–15:30, and a gentle wind-down with free play at the end of the day.

Every part of the day is designed to help children feel secure, settled, and ready to learn.
