🌟 An exciting new chapter for RWIS 🌟

What kind of leader helps a school community thrive?

Today, we are delighted to welcome Anders Hjelm as the new Head of School at RWIS.

With more than 20 years of experience in international education across three continents, Anders brings a wealth of leadership experience, a global perspective, and a deep commitment to helping young people flourish.

But great schools are built on more than experience alone.

As you get to know Anders, you will discover a leader who believes in listening first. Someone who values collaboration, open communication, and strong relationships. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with teachers, staff, students, and families to create school communities where people feel connected, supported, and empowered to contribute.

He also believes that great schools are built by great teams. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with teachers and staff to create a culture of trust, collaboration, and continuous growth, where people feel empowered to contribute, take initiative, and make a positive difference every day.

At the heart of his approach is a simple belief: every child should feel supported, challenged, and inspired to become the best version of themselves.

What kind of environment does that create?

One where well-being and academic excellence go hand in hand. One where compassion, courage, honesty, and drive are lived every day. One where every member of the community feels seen, heard, and valued.

We are excited for the journey ahead and look forward to welcoming Anders to our community.

Please join us in giving him a warm RWIS welcome 🙌

📅 Preschool FAQ #3: When does preschool start?
We’re continuing our Preschool FAQ series with another important question.

Our preschool starts on 2nd September.

During the first three days, we will run a gentle, slow introduction period to help children settle into their new environment with confidence.

Parents will also be welcome in the classrooms during this time, supporting a calm and gradual transition.

Before the start date, we will be in touch with all registered families so you can meet the teachers and begin getting to know us in advance.

💬 What else would you like to know about the first days of school? Leave your question in the comments for the next video. 👇

👶 Preschool FAQ #2: How many children are in each group?
We’re continuing our Preschool FAQ series with one of the most common questions we receive.

Our classrooms are designed to stay small and intentional.

Each group will have a maximum of 16 children, supported by a class teacher and additional learning assistants throughout the day.

This allows us to keep learning personal, relationships strong, and each child truly seen.

🕣 What does a preschool day actually look like?
We receive many questions from you for our new preschool, so we’re starting a new series: Preschool FAQ.

In this first video, we walk you through our daily rhythm at RWIS Preschool:
08:00–16:30, with a calm morning arrival, learning time from 09:00–15:30, and a gentle wind-down with free play at the end of the day.

Every part of the day is designed to help children feel secure, settled, and ready to learn.

💬 What would you like us to answer next about our preschool? Leave your question in the comments and we may feature it in the next video. 👇

♟️ What does focus and perseverance look like in action?

At the Mallorca Chess Championship (17–19 April), two of our students took on that challenge after qualifying through the regional rounds.

Iancu, competing in Under 14 and in his very first year as a federation member, achieved an international ranking and scored 3 out of 6 points. A strong and meaningful first experience at this level.

Francesco, in Under 10, delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 4 out of 6 points and only losing to the champion and the top-ranked player. He has now qualified for the Balearic Islands Championship in May.

As you read this, you might wonder what it takes to reach this stage. Focus, patience, resilience, and the willingness to keep learning with every move.
We are very proud of both students and the journey they are on.
