A little introduction for anyone new to my page… 👋
Hello! I thought I would share a little about me, both as a tutor and as a person 😊
I’m a mum to two wonderful children – my daughter is about to start university, and my son is heading into Year 11. We also have a house rabbit, who apparently believes our door frames are great to chew...
Before becoming a teacher, I was actually a newspaper reporter. I have now been teaching for 23 years, and throughout that time I have developed a real passion for helping children and young people recognise that they can succeed.
There is nothing quite like seeing a student’s confidence grow. Sometimes it simply takes the right support, a calm approach and someone who believes in them until they begin to believe in themselves too.
I have many years of experience in adaptive teaching, supporting a wide range of learning needs, including dyslexia. My approach is calm, clear and supportive, with plenty of opportunities for consolidation. I don’t believe in rushing on before a student is ready. Instead, I identify gaps in learning and carefully match tasks to those areas, helping to build secure understanding, confidence and progress.
Alongside teaching in a local primary school three days a week, I also work with agencies supporting students who are not currently in mainstream education.
In addition, I work as a private tutor, supporting students on both a one-to-one and small group basis, either face-to-face or online.
I currently offer support from Year R through to GCSE English Language, as well as Functional Skills Maths and English.
An update for September: 🍂🍁
My one-to-one tutoring spaces are currently full, although I do have a waiting list.
I do, however, have limited spaces available in my small online GCSE English Language groups, starting in September. (Full details on my page)
If you have a child going into Year 10 or 11 and feel that some additional support could be beneficial, please do get in touch for a completely no-pressure chat.
I would love the opportunity to help your child grow in confidence and recognise what they are capable of. Many of my students have also told me that the skills and exam techniques they develop in our GCSE tutoring sessions have helped to boost their performance in other subjects too. 🙌
Please feel free to send me a message if you’d like to have a chat about how I may be able to support your child.
With thanks, Lorna x
