During Easter in Spain, it’s very common to eat "torrijas".
👉 What are "torrijas"?
They are a traditional dessert made with bread. The bread is soaked in milk with sugar and cinnamon, then coated in egg and fried.
👉 Useful vocabulary:
• "empapar": to soak completely
• "rebozar": to coat food in egg (and sometimes flour or breadcrumbs)
• "freír": to fry in hot oil
😋 They are sweet, very tasty… and quite high in calories!

En Semana Santa, en España, es muy típico comer torrijas.
👉 ¿Qué son las torrijas?
Son un postre tradicional hecho con pan. El pan se empapa en leche con azúcar y canela, después se reboza en huevo y se fríe.
👉 Vocabulario útil:
• empapar: mojar completamente
• rebozar: cubrir un alimento con huevo (y a veces harina o pan rallado)
• freír: cocinar en aceite caliente

ENG 🎭🎉 For Carnival, IEE brings you the different meanings of the word mask 🎭🎉
The word comes from the Italian 🇮🇹 “maschera”, which in turn comes from the Arabic “masẖarah” 🇸🇦, meaning - object of laughter.
🪩🕺We use a mask during Carnival, at costume parties, or at masked balls (“baile de mascaras”) to cover our faces and become another character. In Spanish, we can also say antifaz (eye mask) or careta (face mask).
💄👁️We also use the word mask to refer to mascara, the makeup we apply to our eyelashes.
Its diminutive form, “mascarilla”, also has several meanings:
🩺 The one used by doctors and nurses (surgical or hygienic mask).
💆‍♀️ The one we apply to our hair or face to care for and nourish them.
🕵️‍♂️And the verb “desenmascarar” means to remove someone’s mask — in other words, to reveal who they really are.

ENG 🤔 How many meanings of the word “picar” do you know?
In Spanish, it’s a VERY versatile word. Here are some of them… how many more can you think of? 👀👇
🐜 An insect bites/stings you (Un insecto pica) → and the mark it leaves is called a “picadura” (bite/sting).
✂️ To pierce with something sharp → if you pierce (picas) paper, you get “papel picado”, a traditional Mexican decoration for “Día de Mu***os”.
🧅 To chop (picar) food → cutting into very small pieces: to chop onions, minced meat (carne picada).
🍷🌶️ The wine is sour (picado) / the food is spicy (picante) → same origin, very different meanings!
🌊 The sea is rough (picado) → short, fast waves with sharp crests, usually caused by strong winds or storms.
🎣 The fish bites (pica) → it has taken the bait.
🪤 You’ve taken the bait (has picado) → you’ve fallen into a trap (just like the fish 😅).
🤏 Something itches (me pica)→ you can’t stop scratching (note: in Spanish this works like the verb "gustar").
