All the good things in life have one common denominator: 3 Brains - Head, Heart and Gut - Alignment.

28/04/2026

We tested 5,218 professionals across 42 countries.
We expected senior leaders to score significantly higher on emotional intelligence than middle managers.
They don't; the difference is almost zero.

So what actually separates the leaders at the top?

Not a higher IQ, nor a stronger emotional intelligence.
The leaders who reach the top have learned to trust their gut instincts, even when the data is incomplete and there is no time to wait.

The higher the stakes, the less complete the information.
That is not a leadership problem.
That is the critical leadership condition for success.

The question is: which internal decision system do you trust when the data runs out?

I received my International Coaching Federation MCC renewal this week. 🥳

Funny, on the surface, not much changed. There was no new title, no sense of promotion, yet something emerged. I was reminded again why I love this work so much and what mastery continues to ask of me.

The longer I practise, the less important it is to be the smartest voice in the room. I notice how little I need to explain or interpret, and how often real change begins precisely when I stop trying to move things forward. There are moments in coaching when something wants to take shape, but only if it is not interrupted, corrected, or subtly taken over with well-intended words or questions.

That kind of moment cannot be produced. It cannot be accelerated or made safer by technique. It can only be allowed.

At this level, the work is about adding value without adding value.

A pause long enough to sense what happens next often says more than any explanation could. It is not about stepping into a process that is not mine, nor about letting my own need to help, understand, or perform quietly guide the client.

I keep being reminded that mastery has less to do with knowing what to do and much more to do with discernment. Knowing when to engage, when to hold, and when presence itself is the most responsible contribution.

Presence starts to matter more than technique. Timing carries more weight than insight. Safety is created not by intervention, but by restraint.

This renewal does not feel like a milestone. It feels like a recommitment. To passion, discipline, and to staying out of the way when that is what truly serves.

And to trusting, with a quiet kind of enjoyment, that when I coach from a 3 Brains alignment, something deeper can emerge. That mastery is not about applying the right move, but about being attuned enough to sense what is needed next. A pause. A question. Or nothing at all.

I’m reminded of something Bruce Lee once said about being like water. Able to take any shape, respond to what is there, and still remain itself.

That, for me, is what mastery continues to point towards.

In today’s fast-paced and unpredictable world, traditional intelligence and experience aren’t enough for leaders to thrive. Complex decisions demand more than just logic or gut instincts—they require balance, clarity, and integration.

In my latest Medium article, I explore how the 3 Brains Theory (Head, Heart, and Gut) provides a framework for leaders to navigate these challenges effectively.

🧠 Head Brain: The powerhouse of logic and analysis—but beware of overthinking.
❤️ Heart Brain: The center of empathy and connection—yet vulnerable to emotional overwhelm.
🌟 Gut Brain: The source of courage and instinct—but sometimes impulsive under stress.
Why do smart leaders get stuck?
Often, they rely too heavily on one brain, ignoring the wisdom of the others. This imbalance can lead to indecision, emotional paralysis, or reactive choices.

How do leaders break free?
By consciously engaging all three brains to:
✔️ Make ethical, balanced decisions.
✔️ Foster creativity and innovation.
✔️ Adapt to change with confidence and resilience.

In the article, I share insights, real-world examples, and practical steps to help leaders align their Head, Heart, and Gut brains to drive better decisions and inspire their teams.

💬 What’s your experience with making tough decisions? How do you balance logic, emotion, and instinct in your leadership? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
