¡El plazo para el envío de propuestas al XXIII Encuentro de Jóvenes Investigadores en Historia Antigua (edición online, 14-16 de octubre de 2024, MYRAH en inglés) está abierto!

La fecha límite es el 17 de mayo. Esta edición lleva por título "Hibridismo, agencia y espacio en el mundo antiguo. Narrativas del cambio". La participación es gratuita y si queréis mandar vuestra propuesta solo tenéis que rellenar el siguiente formulario online (por favor, indicad vuestros datos correctamente, ya que se utilizarán para expedir los certificados de participación): https://forms.gle/FvvfxmU5SNqRsdN77

Las propuestas serán evaluadas por nuestro Comité Científico, cuyos integrantes se darán a conocer en los próximos meses en nuestra página web, así como los datos de nuestros conferenciantes plenarios.

We are honored to inform you that the keynote lecture at will be given by Professor Greg Woolf (University of California, Los Angeles), which will take place on 22 December 2023.

Woolf is a cultural historian of the Roman Empire. He has a long-standing interest in the culture of empire in the ancient world, and has worked on the formation of provincial cultures, often using archaeological material, and also on the cosmopolitan cultures of the metropolis. Much of his work considers the Roman world in a global perspective.

Some of his most relevant books are Becoming Roman: the origins of provincial civilization in Gaul (1998), and The life and death of ancient cities: a natural history (2020) among many other titles.

Languages accepted are SPANISH and ENGLISH. Other working languages of the disciplines mentioned above may be accepted (FRENCH, ITALIAN, GERMAN, PORTUGUESE...) but in that case, participants are requested to prepare audiovisual media or materials in English or Spanish.

We are very pleased to announce that the opening lecture of MYRAH 2023 will be given by Professor Allison Emmerson (Tulane University) on 20 December at 16:15h (Madrid time; GMT +2 hours).

Emmerson is a Roman archaeologist who specializes in the study of cities. She is particularly interested in the “marginal” aspects of ancient urbanism, not only literal city edges and the activities they attracted, such as waste management and the treatment of the dead, but also the people who have been marginalized both in ancient life and in modern reconstructions of it, including women, the enslaved, and the subelite.

Her first book, Life and Death in the Roman Suburb, was published by Oxford University Press in 2020 and was awarded the Archaeological Institute of America’s James R. Wiseman Book Award in 2022.
