Recently, we had the privilege of hosting Ilan Goldfain, President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, at IE Tower, in a special event to analyze the most pressing challenges and opportunities for growth in Latin America and the Caribbean.

As Manuel Muñiz, Dean of IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs, noted, “In a world increasingly marked by economic, political and social fractures, it is essential to understand the crucial role of Latin America and the Caribbean.”

In conversation with Germán Ríos, Director of the Latin American Observatory at IE University, and Manuela Blanco, President of the Brazil Club and IE University student, Golfdain emphasized the key role of youth in the search for global solutions, and highlighted the major opportunities for the region: nature and biodiversity, clean energy, and food security.

“What has made my experience a remarkable one so far is the diversity of the IE Community, be it through its students or professors,” shared Sibylle Antaki, a student of our Master in International Relations.

Originally from Aleppo, Syria, she and her family moved to Lebanon when the war started. Acutely aware of the significant challenges in the region like limited business opportunities and weak social support systems, she wants to pursue a career that could contribute to making the world more equal and inclusive.

For Sibylle, the program is an opportunity to connect with others and build a foundation for a successful career in the Middle East, as it covers crucial aspects like regional stability, political economy and international law.

We were delighted to host Enrico Letta, president of the Jacques Delors Institute and former prime minister of Italy, at our presentation event for the “Much more than a market” report on the European Single Market earlier this month.

The session was expertly moderated by Ilke Toygür, director of the Global Policy Center at IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs. The two engaged in a rich discussion on the intricacies and future of the European Single Market. Attendees gained valuable insights into economic integration, policy challenges and strategic opportunities.

Earlier this month, our Bachelor in Economics students participated in this year’s International Trade and Monetary System Challenge!

This challenge was an opportunity for students from our Segovia and Madrid campuses to compete against each other in designing an investment strategy to advise a fictional board of directors.

📅 DAY 6: Our students visited the stunning Tengboche Monastery, the largest Gompa in the Khumbu region, at 3,867 meters. They immersed themselves in the serene Tibetan Buddhist traditions and soaked in the breathtaking Himalayan views. 🕉️🕌

📅 DAY 7: The trek to Dingboche began! They pushed through rugged terrain, reaching 4,410 meters. This acclimatization day was spent exploring the village, interacting with locals and preparing for the next adventure. 🏞️🚶‍♂️

We’re thrilled to share some highlights from the incredible experiences our Executive Master in International Development students had during their recent residential week in New York!

This transformative journey allowed our students to delve into critical topics such as sustainable finance, strategic advocacy and communications.

Throughout the week, our students had the unique opportunity to engage with leading global organizations, including the UN Foundation, UNICEF, SDG Academy, UNDP, ICEX, and UN Women. These interactions provided invaluable insights into the inner workings of international relations and global governance.

Coming from the United States, Gillian decided to pursue a degree with us, eager to start “working with like-minded individuals from all over the world” towards a common goal. During this innovative 10-month program, our Master in Applied Economics students combine research and quantitative analysis, acquiring the skills to analyze global trends and understand complex economics with the most up-to-date tools.

On top of this, they have unique opportunities to visit some of the world’s top financial institutions like the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and others during the Immersive Week. Meet Rebecca Zlatkin, a graduate from our Master in International Relations.

During her time at IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs, she was offered a place in the Eisenhower Global Scholar Program and the prestigious OAS-IE Americas Fellowship Program. The latter allowed her to spend her post-graduate years in Washington, DC, learning and working for the OAS, one of the oldest multilateral organizations in the world.

One of Rebecca’s most notable contributions was helping the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI) achieve its financial inclusion, technology, digital transformation, blockchain and artificial intelligence goals.

Just yesterday, a team of five graduate students representing IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs was awarded first prize in the Global University Challenge.

Organized at the World Government Summit in Dubai from February 13-15, the Global University Challenge is an innovative competition that aims to shape the future of governance with international students from 12 leading academic institutions participating this year.

The IE University team included Mariana Ferreira, Mélanie Houé, Neda Keshtkar, Samantha Lee Dukes, and Anton Sadtlere who created a proposal for a Universal Digital Rights Charter in less than 48 hours. Aiming at advancing human rights in the digital space, their project stood out for its multi-stakeholder engagement process, its implementation strategy and its feasibility in the context of real-life United Nations processes.

Just yesterday, a team of five graduate students representing IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs was awarded first prize in the Global University Challenge.

Last month, students from the IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs were invited to United Nations Week in collaboration with the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC).

A full week designed to connect and educate students with lectures, masterclasses and career fairs, we are so glad our community was able to hear important advice about the field first-hand from United Nations practitioners. Furthermore, the week signified the start of the United Nations Mentoring Program and the final presentation of last year’s UNSSC Summer Research Program to members of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs!
