📅 DAY 2: They embark on an exhilarating journey as they fly to Lukla, a scenic mountain town nestled amidst the majestic Himalayas. From there, they begin their trek to Phakding, navigating through rugged terrain with every step bringing them closer to nature’s wonders. 🏔️🚶‍♂️

📅 DAY 3: The journey continues as they trek onward to Namche Bazaar, a bustling hub of activity nestled at an altitude of 3,428 meters. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and breathtaking vistas, they push their limits, fueled by determination and awe-inspiring beauty. 💪❄️

How can you maximize your experience as a Master in International Relations student in Madrid? Gillian Giordano advises, “Make sure you’re ready to work hard, and expect to get out of the degree what you put into it.”

Coming from the United States, Gillian decided to pursue a degree with us, eager to start “working with like-minded individuals from all over the world” towards a common goal. When it asked what she sees herself doing in the future, she says would like to carry out field work so that later on in her career, she can become an effective policymaker.

During this innovative 10-month program, our Master in Applied Economics students combine research and quantitative analysis, acquiring the skills to analyze global trends and understand complex economics with the most up-to-date tools.

On top of this, they have unique opportunities to visit some of the world’s top financial institutions like the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and others during the Immersive Week. This year, our students traveled to Paris and Luxembourg for a privileged inside look at these institutions.

In her years with us, she’s been involved in the IE International Policy Review, where she’s honed her academic writing and research skills. Furthermore, she won third prize in her category at the IE Foundation Prizes for the Humanities, has engaged in consultancy projects and completed a remote internship with Emergence Madagascar. Meet Rebecca Zlatkin, a graduate from our Master in International Relations.

During her time at IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs, she was offered a place in the Eisenhower Global Scholar Program and the prestigious OAS-IE Americas Fellowship Program. The latter allowed her to spend her post-graduate years in Washington, DC, learning and working for the OAS, one of the oldest multilateral organizations in the world.

One of Rebecca’s most notable contributions was helping the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI) achieve its financial inclusion, technology, digital transformation, blockchain and artificial intelligence goals.

Just yesterday, a team of five graduate students representing IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs was awarded first prize in the Global University Challenge.

Organized at the World Government Summit in Dubai from February 13-15, the Global University Challenge is an innovative competition that aims to shape the future of governance with international students from 12 leading academic institutions participating this year.

The IE University team included Mariana Ferreira, Mélanie Houé, Neda Keshtkar, Samantha Lee Dukes, and Anton Sadtlere who created a proposal for a Universal Digital Rights Charter in less than 48 hours. Aiming at advancing human rights in the digital space, their project stood out for its multi-stakeholder engagement process, its implementation strategy and its feasibility in the context of real-life United Nations processes.

Just yesterday, a team of five graduate students representing IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs was awarded first prize in the Global University Challenge.

Last month, students from the IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs were invited to United Nations Week in collaboration with the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC).

A full week designed to connect and educate students with lectures, masterclasses and career fairs, we are so glad our community was able to hear important advice about the field first-hand from United Nations practitioners. Furthermore, the week signified the start of the United Nations Mentoring Program and the final presentation of last year’s UNSSC Summer Research Program to members of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs!

Meet Ningxuan Huang, a Master in International Relations student from China. A recipient of the CSC-IE Scholarship for Sustainable Development for Chinese Candidates, she first learned about IE University while working at the Spanish Embassy in Beijing.

Now in Madrid, she loves living in such a dynamic city that always has something going on—whether that’s checking out art exhibitions or taking in a film—while participating in the IE Sailing and IE Hiking clubs.

She was born in in Costa Rica but raised in Medellín, Colombia, before spending 11 years living in China, where she studied Chinese and earned a Bachelor of International Economics and Trade.

Now a global account manager at Hawksford in Shanghai, Manuela works advising international clients on investing and trading in China, and is passionate about sharing her expertise with Latin American companies.

Just yesterday, IE University and IE School of Global and Public Affairs had the enormous privilege of hosting Valvanera Alargui, General Director of the Spanish Office for , Spanish Delegation at , and Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge in COP 27 Sharm El-Sheikh: “The Day After”.

Commenting on the results of the 2022 United Nations COP27 Climate Change Conference, Mona Arafa, Egypt Ambassador to Spain, states “the results they managed to achieve was a testament to the collective will of the international committee, that multilateral diplomacy is still working and despite challenges … there is a strong commitment to fight climate change”.

Valvanera Alargui, speaking about the urgency of following through with the commitments made noted that “we are not just talking about mitigating disasters in the future or predictions. We are talking about disasters and crises we are dealing with now in the present”.
