As our Summer Schools came to an end last Friday, Madrid was covered by an unusual haze. Smoke from the devastating wildfires drifted across the city, transforming the sky and creating a sunset that was both breathtaking and deeply unsettling. 🌅🔥

Beauty and concern can sometimes exist in the same moment.

Throughout our programs, we discussed one of the defining challenges of our time: adapting to a changing climate and building more resilient societies. The fires we witness are a powerful reminder of how important that work is. While wildfires have many causes, hotter and drier conditions can make them more frequent and more difficult to control.

There is still so much to do—from prevention and sustainable land management to better emergency preparedness and international cooperation.

We hope our students leave Madrid not only with new knowledge and friendships, but also with a renewed commitment to creating a more sustainable future.
