Working together to support mental health in youth football. ⚽💙

This week, Red Deporte took part in the TEAM Erasmus Project meeting in Madrid, bringing together partners from Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Italy and Spain. Thank you to Meta for hosting us!

The meeting focused on developing handbooks and practical resources for coaches, parents, clubs and associations. Partners exchanged good practices and discussed how to better recognise, address and respond to mental health challenges faced by young players.

Through TEAM, we are working to reduce stigma and make mental health a more openly discussed and better-supported part of youth football.

We’re delighted to feature Miranda Cuevas Morales in our latest People of Red Deporte Spotlight! 💙⚽

A recent Environmental Science graduate from McGill University, Miranda joined our team with a passion for working with people and creating positive social impact.

During her time at Red Deporte, she helped organize our summer camp in Madrid, coordinating activities, managing logistics and collaborating with community partners and volunteers. Through this experience, she saw firsthand how sport can be a powerful tool for education, inclusion and community building.

Thank you, Miranda, for your dedication and for being part of the Red Deporte journey. We’re excited to see what comes next! 💙

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to attend an event at Avenida de Europa 19, where we set up a stand to share our work in Zambia and raise awareness of our project to build a sports centre for local youth. 🇿🇲

It was a valuable opportunity to speak with attendees, introduce them to the project and explain how sport can help create new opportunities for communities in Zambia.

A big thank you to Onivia, and especially Iciár, for inviting us and giving us the opportunity to share our mission with a new audience.

Every conversation brings us one step closer to making this vision a reality. 💛

Hoy queremos hablar de cifras, pero no de las más grandes.

A lo largo de nuestra trayectoria, en Red Deporte y Cooperación hemos desarrollado cerca de 200 proyectos. Cada uno ha requerido reuniones, llamadas, gestiones y mucho trabajo que a menudo permanece detrás de las cámaras. Sin embargo, el verdadero valor de nuestra labor no se mide únicamente en el número de proyectos realizados, sino en las personas que encuentran nuevas oportunidades gracias a ellos.

La semana pasada, nuestra compañera Chus acompañó a Mary y Rebecca, dos adolescentes que vivían y dormían en las calles de Lusaka, Zambia, en su incorporación a dos centros de acogida colaboradores.

Vivir en la calle significaba estar expuestas diariamente a innumerables riesgos. Ahora, ambas se encuentran en un entorno más seguro, con el apoyo y la atención que necesitan.

Continuamos trabajando para abrir nuestro propio centro en Zambia en 2028 y seguiremos compartiendo los avances de este proyecto.

Pero hoy no queremos centrarnos en 200 proyectos ni en 2028. Hoy, el número más importante es dos: Mary y Rebecca, dos jóvenes cuyas vidas y futuros importan profundamente.

Today, we want to talk about numbers—but not necessarily the biggest ones.

Throughout our journey, Red Deporte y Cooperación has carried out nearly 200 projects. Each one has required meetings, phone calls, paperwork and countless hours of work behind the scenes. However, the true value of our work is measured not only by the number of projects completed, but by the people who gain new opportunities through them.

Last week, our colleague Chus supported Mary and Rebecca, two teenagers who had been living and sleeping on the streets of Lusaka, Zambia, as they moved into two of our partner shelters.

Life on the streets exposed them to countless risks every day. Now, they are in a safer environment where they can receive the care and support they need.

We are continuing our work toward opening our own center in Zambia in 2028, and we look forward to sharing the project’s progress with you.

But today is not about 200 projects or the year 2028. Today, the most important number is two: Mary and Rebecca, two young people whose lives and futures matter deeply.

For our second "Spotlight Series" we will be highlighting the work of Malo.

Malo joined Red Deporte with a background in sport management and a strong interest in the social impact of sport.

During his time with the team, he worked alongside children, volunteers, and staff across different activities, gaining hands-on experience in a very different setting from the classroom.

One of the biggest takeaways from his time here was learning how important it is to stay adaptable, patient, and open to different perspectives when working in the social sector.

His experience also reinforced a simple belief: sport should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their circumstances.

Thanks to Malo for his work, commitment, and time with Red Deporte. We wish him the best in what comes next.
