Visitors are always impressed by how good it smells when they first enter our school! Our kitchen is located at the heart of our main building and students witness daily how high quality ingredients transform into delicious, nutritious meals. Every dish is prepared from scratch using fresh, wholesome ingredients by our dedicated cook.
We believe that experiencing freshly prepared food is an essential part of education—engaging students about nutrition, sustainability, and the joy of shared meals.

Today was extra special as we celebrated our May birthdays with our monthly “BDay Cake Day.’ After lunch, the community gathered to sing “Happy Birthday” and enjoy the cake together, creating those meaningful moments that make our school community so special.

On this day, January 6, 1907 — Maria Montessori opened her first school in Rome. That day she predicted: “I don’t know what came over me but I had a vision and, inspired by it, I was inflamed and said that this work we were undertaking would prove to be very important and that someday people would come from all over the world to see it.”

Today there are Montessori schools all around the globe, where many children and adults continue to grow and thrive because of her ambitious expectations and great efforts.

The idea that “the hand is the muscle of the brain” reflects the deep connection between physical action and cognitive development. It suggests that our brain learns and grows through sensory and motor experiences. When we physically interact with the world—touching, manipulating, or creating things—we engage our minds in ways that abstract thinking alone can’t achieve.

In the our music program we start by emphasizing function over form. That is to say, the focus is on connection: children connecting to music.
And this year we’ve added a special Cancion del Mes on our podcast as another way for children to connect to music.

Our laboratory class is designed to evoke curiosity and a desire to understand and question how and why things work. With hands-on activities and experiments, the children explore scientific concepts, including air pressure, fermentation, Newton’s laws of motion, gravity and flight.

Esta clase de laboratorio está diseñada para evocar la curiosidad y el deseo de comprender y cuestionar cómo y por qué funcionan las cosas. Con actividades y experimentos prácticos, los niños exploran conceptos científicos, como la presión del aire, la fermentación, las leyes del movimiento de Newton, la gravedad y el vuelo.

At City Country School we provide instruction in English and Spanish.
Our approach to language learning mirrors our approach to all learning.
Children must first become aware of a second language: begin to notice it, take in its sound. Once they become aware of it, they begin to absorb it and to form the oral base of the language upon which later language learning is built.
Our primary aims are bilingualism, biliteracy and cross-cultural competence.
One benefit of dual-language programs is that the school includes both adults and students who are native speakers of each language and serve as models for the language. In addition, students get to know others from a different cultural background.

En City Country School impartimos el curriculum en inglés y español.
Nuestro enfoque para el aprendizaje de idiomas refleja nuestro enfoque para todo el aprendizaje.
Los niños y las niñas primero deben tomar conciencia de un segundo idioma: comenzar a notarlo, asimilar su sonido. Una vez que se dan cuenta de ello, comienzan a absorberlo y forman la base oral del idioma sobre el que se construye el aprendizaje posterior del idioma.
Nuestros objetivos principales son el bilingüismo, el bialfabetismo y la competencia intercultural.
Un beneficio de los programas de dos idiomas es que la escuela incluye tanto a adultos como a estudiantes nativos de cada idioma que sirven también como modelos para el idioma. Además, los estudiantes llegan a conocer a otras personas de diferentes culturas.
