What's been the hardest part of learning Spanish since moving to Madrid?

One of the things I love most about Spain… its local festivals ❤️

Every summer, I return to my hometown to celebrate one of my favourite traditions: .

Growing up, these celebrations were simply part of my life.

Today, after teaching Spanish to students from all over the world, I see them differently.

They remind me that learning a language isn't only about grammar or vocabulary.

It's about understanding the people, the traditions and the stories that shape a country.

Many of my students are expats living in Madrid or international families who want to feel more connected to Spain.

And one of the best pieces of advice I can give them is this:

Don't just learn Spanish.

Live it.

Visit local festivals.

Listen to the music.

Ask questions.

Talk to local people.

Taste the traditional food.

At , we believe that confidence grows far beyond the classroom.

Because languages aren't just studied.

They are experienced.

One of my favourite Spanish traditions 🇪🇸⚔️

Every summer, I go back to my hometown to celebrate one of the most spectacular festivals in Spain: Moros y Cristianos.

For a few days, the streets fill with music, colourful costumes, parades and centuries of history.

As a child, I couldn't wait for these celebrations. Today, I still feel the same excitement every time I hear the first notes of the marching bands.

Many people who move to Spain know about festivals like Las Fallas or La Tomatina, but there are so many local traditions that help us understand Spanish culture in a much deeper way.

For me, Moros y Cristianos is much more than a festival.

It's about family.

Community.

Tradition.

And memories that are shared from one generation to the next.

I always encourage my students to explore these local celebrations whenever they can.

Learning Spanish isn't only about understanding the language.

It's also about discovering the stories, traditions and people that make Spain so unique.
