“Soy de Madrid” or “Estoy en Madrid”?

Both are correct, but they tell us different things.

Soy de Madrid → I’m from Madrid.
Estoy en Madrid → I’m in Madrid.

A small difference that comes up when you introduce yourself or talk about where you live.

Nihal, for example, is spending his first year in Madrid:
“Estoy en Madrid” tells us where he is, without saying that he’s from here.

Ahora tú: ¿de dónde eres y dónde estás?

🎧 Can you understand a real conversation in Spanish?

Today we're taking Spanish outside the classroom.

I had the pleasure of joining Miguel Moreno on his podcast Vivir Lejos Hablar Cerca – Learn Spanish, a project that uses real stories and experiences to help Spanish learners practise their listening skills.

And I thought… why not turn my interview into a Spanish listening challenge for our Cucu community? 🇪🇸

🎧 Listen to part of the conversation and try to:

✓ Identify the main idea
✓ Write down 5 words or expressions you understand
✓ Find 1 new expression
✓ Explain in Spanish what you understood

You don't need to understand every word.

Learning to listen is also learning to tolerate uncertainty, recognise context and gradually train your ear for real Spanish conversations.

This is exactly how we like to learn at Cucu Spanish: through real people, real experiences and meaningful communication.

What happens when children have a real reason to use ?

This summer, our students didn't just practise Spanish. They used it to meet someone new.

Through our Letters to a Friend project, children and teenagers from different backgrounds exchanged handwritten letters throughout July and August.

They introduced themselves.
They talked about their families and holidays.
They asked questions.
They waited for replies.

And behind every letter, we worked on vocabulary, grammar, writing, and communication.

But perhaps the most important part wasn't the grammar.

It was having someone real on the other side waiting for an answer.

That's what learning through communication means to us at CUCU Spanish.

And this September, the story continues in our small-group Spanish courses.

Finding the right Spanish course in Madrid is about more than choosing a level.

What changes when your Spanish class has only 3–5 students?

You have more opportunities to speak, more personalised feedback and more confidence to participate.

At CUCU Spanish, we deliberately keep our groups small. This allows every student to ask questions, practise real conversations and receive the attention they need—without getting lost in a large online class.

You still benefit from learning with others, sharing ideas and practising different situations, but in a supportive environment where everyone has a voice.
