📚💬 "This module fundamentally transformed the way I think about language." That's how one current student described her journey through the Language Diversity in Education course.
What started as viewing language purely as a tool for instruction became a deeper understanding of it as identity, culture, belonging, and equity. 🌍 As both an educator and school leader, she completed the course newly inspired to champion multilingualism through practice, policy, and professional learning. 💛

Another wonderful addition to our International Education M.Ed. program - Beth Puma!
20 years. 4 cities. One mission: designing systems where multilingual learners don't just get by — they thrive. 🌍
"I have worked in education for 20 years, in New York City, Tucson, Guangzhou, and Tokyo. I have worn many different hats in K-12 settings; however, my passion lies in designing systems, units, lessons, and assessments that strategically meet multilingual students' needs. My work takes me around the globe, working with international schools, public schools in the United States, and coaching educators committed to equitable and joyful systems so that our multilinguals can thrive. I am especially energized by inquiry, translanguaging, culturally responsive pedagogy, and functional linguistics as key leverage points for systematic change.
My work is grounded in the idea that to truly serve multilingual learners, we must design with their needs at the center, within an interdependent multilingual ecosystem."👩🏻🏫

📚✨ Language Diversity in Education
For her final project, our M.Ed. student Sarah presented about an incredible summative assessment project that had Spanish-speaking and other ESL students spend a full week researching, writing, and designing their own informational slideshows. 🙌
She walked us through how, at times, she had to scaffold her directions more than originally planned, adjust the timeline on the fly, and rework parts of the assessment based on where students actually were — not where she assumed they'd be. That flexibility made all the difference.
So proud of the thoughtful, equity-centered work happening in this program. 💛

🌍📚 Language Diversity in Education
For their final project, one of our students tackled a real classroom challenge: teaching English to French- and Arabic-speaking learners. The project dove deep into the specific hurdles these students often face — from differences in sound systems and sentence structure to cultural influence in colloquial expressions — and proposed practical, research-backed strategies teachers can use to support them.
It's exactly what this course is all about: helping educators build the skills and cultural awareness to thrive in linguistically diverse classrooms. 👏

From market intelligence to insect farming, mental health charities to international classrooms — every pivot led here. Now building the future of education at Prisma School, launching High School for Asia & Oceania this August. The journey was experimental. The mission was always the same. 🌏🪲
"I’ve always been passionate about opportunities to help people level up on their own terms, starting with my first job out of undergrad working in market intelligence. It was so cool to see how much of an impact well-tailored guidance could have on professional trajectories. This led me to dedicate the bulk of my career to working in international schools, both as a teacher and administrator. My time at Endicott was really helpful in clarifying my passions related to education, and what type of legacy I wanted to build.
In 2020, I pivoted from my most recent international school position in Bogota and took myself on quite the productive (and highly experimental) growth journey! I started by helping to run an insect agriculture company, then starting a registered mental health charity, founding a holistic tutoring company, and facilitating teacher training at Synthesis School—a gamified edtech company focused on developing collaborative problem solvers.🎯
I joined Prisma School (a progressive, future-oriented, fully accredited, project-based, fully online school - www.joinprisma.com) in 2023, and launched our Lower & Middle School program for families in Asia & Oceania in early 2024. Since then, we've grown a bunch! We're launching our High School for this side of the world in August, and I'm super excited to focus on building out our High School offering over the next few years. We've already had a ton of success with our High School program in the Americas, so I'm feeling really optimistic!"🚀
