the school of nature

the school of nature School for nature connection, located at an off-grid finca in the north-east of Spain. Therefore, we envision and embody a nature-connected life.

We believe our relation to nature lies at the core of the transition to a healthy world. The School of Nature is a regenerative farm and school located in the north-east of Spain. We facilitate connecting with, learning from and living together with nature. We have an holistic approach, meaning we include both inner and outer nature, as well as both wild and cultivated nature. The farm is focussed

on soil enrichment by means of a holistic system of trees, plants and animals, who meanwhile offer food. The school offers experiences of a nature-connected living that are focussed on creating meaningful interactions with nature in both practical and spiritual ways. We are Bastiaan and Jorien. We found each other in both love and vision of life. We started the School of Nature in 2017 from our apartment in Amsterdam. We’ve now settled in our own natural paradise in Spain and are re-launching the School of Nature from here. We both studied in the economy/business/finance sector. Jorien soon found her way working alongside social entrepreneurs and meanwhile unfolded her intuition for working with our inner nature. Bastiaan found his passion for ecology through travels around the world and now holds extensive knowledge and experience in regenerative farming, wild foraging, permaculture and agroforestry/food-forests.

Hi, we’re Bastiaan and Jorien, the faces behind the School of Nature. 🌿 We’re really curious to get to know you better, and we imagined you might be curious about us too. That’s why we created this post! Each month, we’ll respond to one of your stories or questions.

You can ask us anything: about us (like how we ended up in Spain or what our favorite snack is), or about you. If there’s a dream or challenge you’re navigating, we’d love to reflect with you and share our thoughts.

We’re looking forward to connecting and getting to know each other better! Drop your questions below. 💬✨

🌿 Families & Kids welcome! 🌿

Did you know that both our Living with the Land retreat and Wild Food week are family-friendly? You’re welcome to bring your kids, partner, or a caregiver along. They can join the full program, parts of it, or simply share the meals, whatever works best for you.

We love how this brings different generations together. A breastfeeding mom once joined with her baby and co-parent. Someone else brought her grandpa and daughter. It just feels right. Life isn’t separate from what we do here, it’s all part of it.

Connection isn’t a one-time thing. It’s a continuous practice. Because, disclaimer: you’ll 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 fall (or fade) out of connection. With yourself, with your partner, with nature. The key is to 𝘳𝘦-connect. Again and again.

On a retreat, this practice gets easier. No to-do lists. No distractions. Just space, nature, and presence. But the real challenge? To keep reconnecting in daily life. Because let’s be honest. When stress hits, we often know exactly what would help us. But actually doing it? That’s another story. It’s so much easier to hit play on a new series than to step outside and breathe.

When our 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦 of connection is strong, it’s easier to resist the pull of distractions and choose what actually helps. The more we practice, the steadier the base.

There’s no magic trick. But if there was one, it would be this: 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵. Find a supportive environment where you can disconnect from the noise. A safe space. A sharing circle, a veggie garden, a lunch walk, a retreat. The more you practice, the easier it gets to re-find that connection. Also in challenging situations.

Our 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝 retreat is designed for you to practice reconnection. And to give you real, practical tools to keep reconnecting when life gets loud.

And now, we’re excited to start 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝟐𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭, a gathering for both alumni and new curious souls. A space to support each other in this practice. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 20:30 CET on zoom. For free. Sign up via link in bio.

Connection
You hear it everywhere. The world’s problems? A lack of it. The solution? More of it.

Burnout? Reconnect with yourself. Environmental crisis? Reconnect with nature. But what does connection really mean? And what doesn’t it mean?

It’s not just about people. It’s not about always being in harmony. And it’s not something you can force.

Real connection is about presence. Being where you are, fully. Meeting someone and actually hearing them. Looking at a tree and seeing it. Being honest with yourself, even when that’s uncomfortable.

It’s also about how you engage with the world. There’s a difference between turning a dial to heat your house and chopping wood, stacking it, making fire, and feeling its warmth. One is indirect, the process is hidden. The other is direct, you feel it, you understand it. The same goes for growing your food, fixing something instead of throwing it away, cooking a meal from scratch. When you take part in the process, you don’t just get the result, you experience it.

Connection is being in touch with what’s real. Slowing down, noticing, engaging. And when you do, life feels fuller. More grounded. More yours.

What does connection mean to you?

Want to practice connecting? Next week, we host Call2Connect, an online seasonal gathering to reconnect to ourselves, others, and the season. 26 Feb, 20:30-22:00 on Zoom. It’s free. Join via the link in bio.

Maybe you know the feeling: a program that completely aligns with what you’re looking for… but if there’s no connection with the facilitator, it just doesn’t work. We totally recognize that. That’s why we believe it’s not just about offering meaningful content, but also about creating a genuine connection. Because when it truly clicks, that’s when the magic happens. ✨

Want to get to know us better? Three ways to do so!

¨Living with the Land brought me a lot of things. It brought me in touch with a possible balance within myself and my life that I have been looking for for a while. It helped me let go of some things and welcome more openness and acceptance for being myself.

It gave me a lot of tools for living with my inner nature ánd outer nature. It connected me on a deep level to likeminded people.¨

Thank you for these beautiful words!

The key strengths of Living with the Land, according to our alumni

- the combination of 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 skills and 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 practices
- how these two are interwoven into a varied and 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦

¨The combination of inner work and ‘outer work’ that is offered in this program is rather unique. Retreats are usually created around a specific practice, whereas Living with the Land really indulges you in all kinds of practices and activities that are meaningful and make you feel more connected to the world around.

This is not only extremely enriching, it also gives plenty of inspiration to move forward. There are many ways to reconnect to nature and life itself, and it is a blessing to be able to alternate or vary, based on what soothes you most in the moment.¨ - Tess

We often get caught up in the rush of daily life, swept away by its endless demands and distractions. Reconnecting with our true essence can feel challenging amidst the noise. Together, we can support one another in pausing, finding stillness, and reconnecting. With ourselves, with each other, with the rhythm of the seasons, and with the essence of what truly matters.

Therefore, we decided to offer a seasonal community gathering. An online video call, guided by us, Bastiaan & Jorien. There will be meditation, questions for reflection, sharing and inspiration.

For everyone who feels the call to connect to what truly matters. Whether you´re an alumni, old friend or new curious soul, you are very welcome!
