Absolutely necessary and, at times, really challenging. At this point, the question is, what level of disrespect is an organization willing to tolerate from its students? When organizations address teachers’ wellbeing, this aspect must be at the top of the list. 📝

A valuable tip for fostering positive relationships with students is taking the time to listen to them. Ask about their interests and passions, incorporating these topics into your teaching. Engage in conversations, share relevant facts that you have read or watched outside the school about it, and demonstrate genuine interest in what they like. By showing that you listen and care about their interests, you’ll strengthen your connection with them.
Currently, I’m focused on substantiating this belief with facts to emphasize why teachers should prioritize fostering these connections. The power of relationships in education should not be underestimated.
Remember this everyday you are in the classroom. You are such a powerful influence.
Student-centered learning.
1st video tip: Use their names.
And it’s a way to build a positive relationship with your students that ultimately, will have a positive impact on their performance in your class.
Despite its simplicity some teachers just forget this!
Nowadays it is out of doubt that building positive relationships with the students boosts their motivation, engagement and therefore their academic performance. This is my field of expertise and I have been doing it for 15 years. Now I’m helping other educators to do the same by giving tips and recommendations that can be immediately added to your lessons. Stay tuned!
"As the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), I'd like to highlight something mentioned by Dr. Ng Pak Tee, Associate Professor at the National Institute of Education, Singapore: 'When a kid loves a subject, it's because of the teacher. The teacher makes the subject come alive.' In a world and education system increasingly influenced by AI, we must not forget the power of human qualities such as relationships, motivation, love, and care. The teacher is the only one who can build these connections within the classroom, and it's irreplaceable."
WISE 11, Creative Fluency: Human flourishing in the age of AI.
Currently there are a lot of educators showing some resistance to AI, which is normal, resistance to change is natural. However we can’t deny that AI is already happening, therefore we need to learn how to deal with it. Honestly, I think teachers will continue playing an important role, it will change to adapt to the new AI reality. If we think about it, there was a time when teachers were the main character in the room and they were “buckets pouring knowledge” Nowadays, our role is completely different, we are learning facilitators and education is student-centered. Accepting AI and adapting to our new roles is the best way we can help our students.
I have been asked many times by colleagues why I waste so much time talking to the students about things that are not included in my subject curriculum.
- Why have you spent one hour discussing gender equality and indentity with your students instead of teaching them the lesson you had planned for today?
- Well, they brought it up, they were curious about it and they wanted to talk and express their feelings.
As a teacher, it is my responsibility to listen and attend the needs of my students, and this was important for them. Not only will help them to develop and find their identities, but also they feel heard and respected. When you have a good connection with your students, teaching them is easier and faster. I may have spent one hour discussing something that was not in my lesson plan, but it saved me hours of instruction in future and most importantly, I addressed an important need they had.
It is crucial to listen to our students’ qneeds, even if that means that day we are not teaching our subject.

Sometimes teachers won’t even be able to see the fruit, but that is not a reason not to put all the love and hard work when planting the seed ❤️👨🏫🎓
And what’s more important, creating a self environment where the learning happens!
This was a beautiful moment last weekend after the F1 race. A moment of sportsmanship between Perez and Alonso. Perez who lost the tough battle with Alonso showed respect by hugging him and offering his recognition. This display of good manners in both victory and defeat is an important lesson for students participating in after-school activities or representing their schools. It emphasizes that results are not the only thing that matters, but also the way we behave when we lose or win.

On my website I discuss about why is so important to build positive relationships with our students. These ideas brought by Brad Weinstein to build that relationship, are similar to the ones I will bring in one of my upcoming articles. Start putting these ideas into practice and you will see the positive results 👍

First PTC of the year done ☺️ I am always fully booked on PTC day and I have meetings back to back for 7-9 hours. It’s exhausting but I really enjoy this day, especially when the kiddos come with their parents, I think it’s way more valuable. It’s a day to show the parents how much you love and care about their kids. A day full of positive conversations and reflecting about learning and growing. I actually get quite emotional these days with these conversations. I’m truly passionate about teaching and it’s very hard for me not to get that involved with my students and their families. Does it happen to you too? Do you enjoy this day or is it a tough cookie for you?

In these days I look around and I think we are failing as teachers, parents and in general as adults. A world full of anger, hate, revenge and thirst for power. I can’t stop thinking that the root of these problems is the lack of love and respect for others 😔 The values I see in society do not represent me and they are far from what we need. Let’s bring to class again shouting it louder than ever ❤️ LOVE ❤️ RESPECT ❤️ EMPATHY ❤️ Changing the world starts in the classrooms, and it wont happen by teaching our kids to be the most academic ones but to have the biggest hearts ❤️
I truly believe that building positive relationships with the kids is the most important thing to succeed as a teacher. It’s been the most difficult and challenging year of my teaching career, but at times also the most rewarding. It’s amazing how positive emails, kind words, listening to their needs and giving them voice, have a deep impact even in the most difficult situations. Most times their emotional background, their insecurities, copying wrong role models to get attention, their lack of self-esteem is the root of the problem.
It takes an insane amount of energy and sure it drains you. But when you see them focused, producing work, making good choices or doing teamwork, those moments are priceless.
It’s truly not about these gifts. You don’t need them to really know when a student really appreciates what you do, you know when they want to do something outstanding just to please you and get some kind words from you, you can see they know when you care about them and that makes a difference.
This is why is so important teachers go to school with their best energy and the best intentions. This is why is key your kids know you love them, you care about them and the most important, you want them to do well. If not, please don’t be a teacher, kids deserve better.
The power of relationships ❤️
