Dear friends and colleagues, in 2027-2028 the University of Jaén will launch the first master in Egyptian Archaeology!!!

University of Jaén to Expand Academic Excellence with New Strategic Postgraduate Programs

The University of Jaén (UJA) has reached a new milestone in the expansion and excellence of its academic catalog. Starting in the 2027-2028 academic year, the institution will offer two new postgraduate degrees of high strategic value, following a favorable report issued by the General Directorate of University Coordination prior to final verification.

Focus on Egyptology and International Collaboration
The first of the approved proposals is the Master’s Degree in Egyptian Archaeology: Materiality, Scripts and Societies. This program is established with a distinct international focus and will be coordinated by the University of Jaén in collaboration with the University of Lisbon.

This master’s degree places UJA at the forefront of Egyptological studies, allowing the student body to delve into the materiality and social structures of Ancient Egypt from a global perspective, coordinated by two leading research institutions in the Iberian Peninsula.

"We are offering an increasingly broad range of possibilities that invites students to specialize in what makes them different—what allows them to stand out, excel, and become unique, always through the lens of academic excellence."
— Hikmate Abriouel, UJA Vice-Rector for Official Teaching.
The Vice-Rector also took the opportunity to congratulate her team for their "magnificent work" in the implementation of these new qualifications.

Employability and Future Outlook

The two new degrees, which have now received the "green light" for the verification process, are scheduled to begin in the 2027/2028 academic year. These programs will complement a portfolio of master’s and doctoral studies that are in constant adaptation to the labor market. The primary goal is to develop student potential and, crucially, to significantly enhance their opportunities for securing high-quality employment.
Next Steps in the Administrative Process

These proposals, considered highly relevant to the UJA Degree Map, will now proceed through the necessary administrative channels. The next stage involves the submission of the verification reports (memorias de verificación).

This process will strictly adhere to the 2026 Calendar for official degree procedures, which received a favorable report from the Academic Commission of the Andalusian Council of Universities (CAU) on March 25, 2026.
