The Ballycotton Cross, an item from the 8th century that was found near Ballycotton in County Cork, Ireland, shows how different cultures can mix by having an Arabic writing on a Christian cross. This black glass seal with early Arabic writing in Kufic script reads "by the will of Allah" or "we have repented to God." It is set in a gilded copper alloy brooch that is styled in the Anglo-Carolingian tradition and has animal designs on it. The cross was probably made in the Carolingian Empire and got to Ireland through Viking trade networks. It represents early medieval cross-cultural interaction by combining Islamic and Christian elements with protective amuletic meaning. It shows that the Celtic world and the Abbasid Caliphate had many connections.
This item can be found in the British Museum right now.
