I don't know where to begin with this case. There has been an arrest in the case of Ollie who was stabbed over 50 times and then stuffed in a suitcase. Brendan Evans was arrested after an investigation.
The investigation into Ollie the dog’s death began in October. Ollie died from cardiac arrest after being tortured by Evans. Evans told officers that he was a Voodoo priest and had the right to kill animals.
In his refrigerator, detectives found rats with their scalps removed, cat paws and blood. There was an 8-pointed star on a kitchen wall, and a shrine with candles for the Duke of Hell. He had a Crime Stoppers' flyer showing a picture of Ollie ripped in two. In his wallet was a tooth from another dog whose whereabouts is unknown. An 18-inch machete was found covered in blood.
This story gets even worse. One investigator reported that "It appeared that something within [his] stove was bleeding and struggling inside the oven, smearing blood while the oven door was closed. Small tufts of fur were visible to the eye on the oven grate."
Several concerned citizens reported Brendan Evans to the police over the past year.
1) He has a lengthy criminal history including domestic battery, and robbing a band Hernando County. He was then placed on probation for the robbery.
2) A report by a Delray Beach police officer from June shows that a man filed a complaint after Evans bought two kittens and called days later requesting for more kittens. The seller of the kittens, who questioned Evans' intentions, called police after becoming suspicious.
3) In a Fort Lauderdale Police Department report filed in February, Evans was reported as attempting to kick a mother duck and her ducklings. When an FLPD officer questioned him, Evans said he wanted to kill the duck because it was his religious right as he practices voodoo.
Could the torture of Ollie and the torture of many other animals have been avoided? Or are our lax laws on animal abuse hindering the police from doing their job? Please let us know what you think in the comments below ...
