It's that time of year now where some countries are beginning to warm up and others.. here we are breathing a sigh of relief as we can turn off the air conditioning and sleep peacefully at night...

Whatever your hemisphere is... Your training can still start. Winter - indoor training, a bike trainer, a treadmill, a short gym membership to do spin classes, strength classes or general conditioning, or even a pool membership.

Here are the most common excuses I hear on a weekly basis, as to why training is not possible, and also possibly the underlying truth behind the excuse.

If you dare, let me know if any one of these applies to you...

"I don't have time".
(I gave my time to every body else..)

"I'm too tired".
(I watched TV for two hours, I went to lunch with friends and it got messy, I went to bed late doing emails..)

"I will go later"
(I won't.)

I will start next week...
(I am waiting for motivation instead of creating it).

I have the kids..
(The kids are fine for 15-20 minutes..)

See these slides... which one is you?

And... when do you start?

I am so happy to be back in the pool building fitness again. I was consistently ill for the first five months of this year, including flu, bronchitis and a never ending gum infection leading to a tooth extraction in July. Months of antibiotics and painkillers are not the best way forward but it had to be done.

Now I'm done with it..

I started my own SwimFit Comeback Plan, which you can buy and download from and drop it into your existing plan or create your own from there.

Here it is
https://www.trainingpeaks.com/training-plans/other/swimming/tp-622458/women-over-40-swimfit-the-swim-comeback-plan

It contains 15 sessions (3x a week) and starts with just 1550 metres, building up to 2500m. All swims are structured and can be downloaded to your goggles or smart wearable.

If you purchase it before 30 August 2026 I'll drop you a discount code.. just email me at [email protected]

Si lo quieres en castellano pídemelo!

Today calls for a Community Love Post....

In 2015 I started coaching women's cycling in the UAE. I did community rides, and taught women to ride bikes - it's never too late by the way...

In 2017 I created Swim Bike Run, and started coaching women over 40 in cycling, triathlon, kettlebells and later on I did an official swim coaching course as well. I taught women to swim, from zero to hero (.trex was our absolute favourite).

By 2020 and onwards, we were a large community of women, and we are an even larger community of women today. There are two WhatsApp groups, one in English and the other in Spanish, totalling 92 women.

Our team representative in the Middle East, .hypnotherapist said beautifully the other week "I was explaining to a friend about SBR/Multisport Ebre and that we post what we’re up to and that we’re all different abilities. I love us.”

And that's what we are about. Our community spans continents, abilities, and ages - but we train with one heart.

Remember, all you need is presence, patience, and the courage to start.

Thank you Ladies - it has been quite the ride! (no pun intended)

One Life, One Ocean – Winter Swim Camp
13–15 November 2026 – L’Ampolla, Tarragona
Ocean and Pool Training

This is winter swim camp built around respect, awareness, and connection goes far beyond technique or endurance. Cold water sharpens perception, demands presence, and turns every session into a deep conversation with the sea.

This camp is designed for athletes who want more than fitness. They want meaning, confidence in colder water, and a relationship with the sea that lasts long after the camp ends. If you're training for a cold water swim or even for an event for Spring 2027, you can still get some open water swimming time with us.

Winter swimming requires preparation, and we take warmth seriously.

Last year, the Dutch athletes set the scene with a hot water bottle system and warmed their feet on it before and after the swim. Good tip!

“the past is a place of reference, not a place of residence.”
– anon

Every athlete carries a few moments they’d rather forget, like the race that slipped away, the day the body said “not today,” the DNF that felt heavier than any finish line medal.

It’s easy to let those moments take up space, to replay them, to let them whisper doubts into the next training block, or the next years!

But a DNF is not a verdict. It’s not a definition. It’s not a place to live and don’t give it real estate in your head.

It’s a reference point and a snapshot of who you were on one specific day, under one specific set of circumstances. Nothing more.

The real growth happens when you stop treating the past as a residence and start using it as information.

What did you learn about pacing, fuelling, mindset, PREPARATION, and resilience? What did that moment reveal about what you need, not what you lack?

Athletes who move forward are the ones who refuse to stay stuck in the story. They take the DNF, turn it over in their hands, extract the lesson, and then step into the next session with clarity instead of fear.

Your past DNFs are not anchors. They are markers and proof that you showed up to that start line, that you tried, that you’re still in the game. They are part of your reference library, not your identity.

Look forward. Build forward. Race forward.

Because the only place an athlete truly lives, is in the next step.

Based on this.. who wants to meet me at the start line first weekend of October, 2029 – Ironman Barcelona? I have unfinished business..

Living in and around the Terres de l'Ebre we are blessed to have trails where you can ride your bike, safely.

You can choose your difficulty level, there's a single track, asphalt road, or a jeep trail.

It's the perfect training ground. Why not bring your friends for a long weekend? An experienced guide can be arranged for single track outings for the more advanced rider.

The morning temperatures are dropping now, with this weekend starting at a pleasant 17 degC. I dusted off my gravel bike on Sunday - is yours ready?

I am getting all hyped all for the triathlon camp from 9-12 September...

We have an athlete coming from Canada and it's her first time in this area... The World Championships at Pontevedra are during the week of 21st September and some river and hill preparation will be needed!

Can't wait.

There are a couple of spots left should you wish to join us! DM me for more information.

TOUR DE TERRES DE L’EBRE - ONLY 2 SPOTS LEFT!

If you’ve been thinking about joining my October road cycling tour… this is your sign. We’re down to just TWO places for the 15–18 October 2026 edition. (Contact me!)

Our roads? Immaculate. Clean, smooth, and freshly relaid in several sections ahead of La Vuelta, which passes right through our area on 26 August.

Traffic? Almost none, and also very respectful to cyclists.
Scenery? Spectacular, with river valleys, citrus groves, mountain ridges, and the wild beauty of the Ports.
Climbing? Oh yes. Enough to make your legs sing and your lungs happy.

Four days of guided riding, a support vehicle, quiet roads, big views, and the kind of cycling that reminds you why you fell in love with the sport.

Join us 15-18 October.
Pack your bike. I’ll take care of the rest.

Working on Mental Skills.. and Self-Esteem!

Self‑esteem is a crucial part of athletic development, and it doesn’t come only from sport. In fact, one of the strongest ways to build real confidence is through non‑sport activities and actions which are things that remind you that you are more than your performance, more than your training plan, and more than your results.

A key part of developing self‑esteem is learning to worry less about what others think. Most people are far too focused on their own insecurities to judge yours and yes, everyone has insecurities, even the athletes who look the most confident on the outside. Fact.

It’s also important to remember that social media is mostly a façade. You’re seeing highlights, filters, and carefully curated moments, not the full reality. Don’t measure yourself against illusions, especially those created by sporting "influencers". Keep it real. Show the wrinkles, it's you. Show the pain, it's you. Because when people meet you in IRL they will see it all..

Above all, aim to be an athlete with integrity and morals. How you treat others, how you carry yourself, and how you show up are the foundations of true confidence.

Strength of character builds strength of mind, and strength of mind builds strength in sport.

Yep, that's my wheelbarrow. Yep, those are wrinkles, that's my 57 years of LIFE.
