So I want to make a statement about the recent fires. 🔥
All my thoughts go to one thing: irresponsible and stupid people living on this planet.
Many people keep saying that we should clean mountains and forests from organic matter like pine cones, dead branches, old logs, and so on to protect them from fire. In my opinion, that’s just complete nonsense…
The places that have recently burned are often completely inaccessible. Huge areas without roads or any easy way to get there. So please keep those ideas about “cleaning the forests” to yourselves …
I have traveled through many of these places, and believe me, it is not nature, animals, or the forest itself that is causing these disasters. Almost every major fire is related to stupid and I repeat, stupid !!! people who have no idea how to live responsibly together on this planet.
One fire starts because someone is welding. Yes, it’s your job but have a large fire extinguisher nearby and another person supervising the work.
Another starts because an electric car catches fire. Make it mandatory for every owner to carry a proper fire extinguisher and know how to use it.
Another starts because a farmer burns vegetation to clean a field.
Another because someone harvests or cuts dry vegetation during the hottest hours of the day.
Again and again, these fires are caused by irresponsible people thinking only about their own convenience and profit.
We all work. We all make money from what we do. But responsibility comes first.
Now let’s talk about solutions.
They’re actually very simple, whether people like them or not and even if they affect me personally.
If we don’t know how to behave, then prohibition is the only solution. Not even more education, because honestly, society seems to be getting less and less responsible.
● No BBQs during the hottest months. We don’t need grilled meat.
● No access to national parks or high risk areas during extreme fire danger.
● No camping gas stoves in the hottest season. Food is available everywhere you don’t need to cook in the forest.
● No entering forests or natural areas during certain seasons or certain hours.
● No dangerous outdoor work during periods of extreme heat.
And many more …
Right now we are traveling through France, and there are barriers and signs everywhere saying “No Entry.” Am I disappointed that I can’t visit some places I had planned to see? Of course.
But I completely understand the reason.
I have a camping gas stove with me, and I haven’t taken it out even once. Why? Because I would be devastated if I accidentally started a fire. I could never forgive myself if I caused a wildfire and wasn’t able to stop it in time even though I always carry a fire extinguisher and water with me.
Like it or not, this is not about freedom.
I’m one of the biggest supporters of personal freedom !!! But sometimes the only way to protect our environment is to temporarily forbid access and restrict certain activities during the hottest season.
If I can’t visit a place today but it will still exist for me to visit next year, I’ll gladly accept that.
I’d rather wait than watch it burn to the ground.
If work has to be delayed by a few days because conditions are too dangerous, then so be it. Nothing terrible will happen.
Seeing the recent fires around places where I live, places I have visited many times, completely destroyed because of human carelessness has made me feel sick and hopeless. I wanted to help, but the authorities understandably don’t allow ordinary people into active fire zones.
And that is heartbreaking.
Here in Spain, once a forest burns, it may take decades to recover. In many places, it never returns to what it once was. Once the large trees that provide shade are gone, only shrubs and dry vegetation can survive the intense heat and drought.
Spain is slowly becoming more desert like, and I can see it happening with my own eyes. Desertification is real.
So I will say it again:
If people don’t know how to behave, then restrict them !!!
Close the areas !!!
Forbid access !!!
Forbid dangerous work during extreme conditions !!!
Because otherwise, our beautiful planet will continue losing incredible places not because of nature, but because of human irresponsibility and stupidity , amen 🙏🏻
