Flamencordoba

No other city in the world hosts such an original event as The White Night of Flamenco, which takes place in Cordoba for one whole night in June. It is a night where streets, squares, taverns and street corners ring to the sound of chords, footsteps and voices.

Flamenco in its purest form rubs shoulders with more avant-garde productions, public art, cuisine, poetry and drama. The White Night of Flamenco takes place in Cordoba, the capital city of encounters and of tolerance, a city so steeped in Flamenco that even its town clock chimes out the hours with the strumming of a guitar in the Plaza de las Tendillas. A city of one race and of many, of mixtures and of roots.

On that magical night, Cordoba becomes one great stage, where artists of the calibre of José Mercé, El Lebrijano, Rosario Flores, Fosforito, El Cigala, Miguel Poveda, Manolo Sanlucar, Jose El Frances, Chambao, Medina Azahara, Luis de Córdoba and El Pele, among others, have performed.

In its first year, the event was attended by over 200,000 people, so it would not be an exaggeration to state that The White Night of Flamenco in Cordoba is set to become the largest event of Flamenco art in the world.

Flamencordoba ArtStudio is proud to share our great opening with the fulfillment of the First Edition of Masterclass Andalusia 2015.

How to describe the amazing and beautiful experience that we all have shared during this Masterclass? And the soul of it still remain, we did not come back yet since the memories of it all are very alive within us!
The Masterclass Andalusia as part of the I International Cycle of Violin has reached more than well its purposes, to enable participants to interpret the work of classical Spanish composers such as Sarasate, Albeniz, Falla, Bizet, Lalo, with the addition of the musical style of Flamenco, all within its cultural frame, in situ, to broad their understanding of the music of their repertoire and the appreciation of the culture of Cordova and its people.

Both participants and visiting teachers, have deepened into the core of this project with enormous sensitivity, they have made more than real a beautiful dream beyond all expectations!

Congratulations for the work done in Cordova by the hands of these highly talented professors and pedagogues David Russell, Andrés Cárdenes and Francisco Montalvo for their inspiration, tuition and wonderful humanity, and the students that gave us the golden clasp in the Concert played at the Liceo of Circulo de la Amistad of Cordova.

DavidDavid Russell, un violinista y profesor excepcional
El violinista David Russell disfruta de fama internacional como profesor de violín.
David Russell, violinista, sigue una carrera como profesor de violín a nivel internacional.
Russell, que ahora mismo trabaja en la Universidad de Carolina del Norte, en Charlotte, como Doctor Honoris Causa “Anne Reynolds Belk” en Música, fue miembro del equipo de violín del Instituto de Música de Cleveland (CIM, en sus siglas en inglés) durante 24 años.
Asimismo, ha trabajado como Director Asistente de la Orquesta de Cuerda del CIM, y fue profesor visitante de violín en el Conservatorio de Música Oberlin College.
Russell ha sido profesor en cursos de verano de gran prestigio, tales como ENCORE School for Strings (Cleveland), el Curso Internacional de Violín de Keshet Eilon (Israel), la Academia Internacional de Música ARIA (Muncie), la Escuela de Música de Meadowmount (Westport), CREDO (Oberlin) y en el Festival de Música de Cámara de Green Mountain (Burlington). También ha formado parte del jurado en numerosas competiciones de violín tanto nacional como internacional, como por ejemplo la Midwest Young Artist Competición (EE.UU.) y la Sion-Valais International Violín Competición (Suiza). Además de todo esto, Russell también ha impartido clases en China, Israel, España, Canadá y Estados Unidos.
Como músico, Russell ha actuado como solista con la Cleveland Pops Orquestra (de la cual es Concertino), y con orquestas a lo largo de todo Estados Unidos.
También ha actuado en recitales de música de cámara en el Glenn Gould Studio de Toronto, y ha tomado parte en el programa “Performance Today”, de la Radio Nacional estadounidense, así como en numerosas salas de conciertos internacionales.
Los estudiantes de Russell también han recibido muy buena crítica.
Entre ellos está el ganador de la división juvenil de la Competición de Violín Yehudi Menuhin de Cardiff, en Gales. Otros de sus alumnos son miembros de importantes orquestas en Estados Unidos (tales como la Orquesta de Cleveland), o de agrupaciones profesionales de música de cámara. Otros dos están ahora mismo en sendas giras como solistas.
