🦠 Viruses and bacteria have long been linked to cancer… but what about fungi? 🍄

In our new study, we explored the impact of the pathogenic fungus Candida albicans on melanoma cells. 🔬

The result? 🚨 The presence of the fungus drives a more aggressive phenotype and higher metastatic potential. It activates the p38-MAPK/c-Fos inflammatory pathway and shifts cellular metabolism toward aerobic glycolysis. ⚡️🧬

These findings offer fresh insights into the potential role of fungi in human carcinogenesis. 🧠✨

The remarkable resistance of Candidozyma (Candida) auris to different environmental stresses, including oxidative stress, plays a crucial role in its pathogenesis.
🔍 In our new study recently published in Microbiological Research, we identified that the Tsa1b peroxiredoxin of C. auris is upregulated at both the protein and gene expression levels in the presence of H₂O₂, and that it contributes to the virulence of the fungus, as demonstrated in in vitro and in vivo infection models.
💡 These findings provide new insights into the defense mechanisms and pathogenicity of C. auris, an emerging pathogen of major clinical concern.

In this study, we identified the most immunoreactive antigens of Candida auris recognized by sera obtained from mice and patients with C. auris systemic infection, and their specificity was confirmed using sera obtained from mice with disseminated infections caused by Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus.
