🧡💛 Happy 9 d’Octubre! 💛🧡

Here at Open Learning we are dedicated to integrate our students into the wider community, through our Spanish project classes and our bilingual program.

Today we celebrate the Día de la Comunitat Valenciana, marking Jaume I’s arrival in Valencia in 1238. It’s a day of senyeres on balconies, sweet mocadorà gifts and celebrating everything we love about this corner of the Mediterranean. ☀️🌊

At Open Learning School, we’re proud to be part of this vibrant community, where languages, cultures and stories come together every day. 📚✨

🚒🔥 **Learning from our local heroes!**

As part of the ‘Our Community’ project our primary students had a fantastic time visiting the fire station and learning all about the important work our local firefighters do in our community.

A huge thank you to the Jávea Volunteer Firefighters for welcoming us, sharing your knowledge and giving our students such a memorable experience! ❤️

A huge thank you to our very kind neighbours at Lady Elizabeth School for sharing resources and opportunities with us! 🤝✨

We were delighted to welcome Mr Ali from HalaTech in Qatar, who spent time with our students exploring all things AI and EdTech 🤖💻

An inspiring opportunity to learn more about how technology is evolving, how AI is shaping education, and how these developments could impact the world our students will enter in the future.

We hope his session inspired our students to be curious, embrace technology and, most importantly, think critically about the possibilities ahead! 🚀

📚 Learning beyond the classroom!
Our primary students visited our local library this week, where they had the opportunity to apply for their very own library cards, enjoy a tour and take part in some fantastic activities and talks led by the librarians. 🇪🇸✨
A wonderful opportunity to discover a new space, practise their Spanish and become part of the local community — helping our students feel truly connected to the Spanish village around them. 🤍

This time, it was turn of our Year 10, Year 11, A Level and Pathfinder students to come together, get to know each other and strengthen the connections that make our Open Learning community so special.

🌍 Our Community Project continues! 💛

This half term, our students are exploring what it means to be part of a community — and this week, our primary students got involved too!

In their Art class, they created ‘Words of Kindness’ painted stones, each one carrying a positive message. 🎨🪨✨

They then took their stones out into the local community and placed them in different spots around Benitachell, spreading a little kindness wherever they went. 💛

A simple idea, but a lovely reminder that even small acts can make a difference.

🌟 Community 🌟

This month’s school wide project is all about the community around us, all year groups from our primary students to our 16+ A level and pathfinders will be taking place in a variety of activities around this topic 🤗

Today we started with ‘Our community’ with an ice breaker activity for years 7, 8, 9 - meeting new friends and getting to know others in the school community!

We’re a small school with a big heart! ❤️

🌱 Professional Development at Open Learning

Last week, our Pastoral Lead, Marie Daries, led a valuable workshop for our team covering SEN support, emotional and mental wellbeing, child protection and safeguarding**.

Supporting the whole student is at the heart of what we do, and ongoing professional development helps ensure our team has the knowledge and tools to support every young person as an individual. 💚
