A patient referred after failed bone grafting and conventional implants. A case that needed a completely different strategy.

Dr. Miljan Micunovic at ZAGA Center Montenegro delivered a tailored solution: Quad Zygoma protocol with an infratemporal approach for the distal zygomatic implant, a pterygoid implant for additional stability, and a full zirconium screw-retained prosthesis with no titanium bases.

Not every patient's anatomy fits the same surgical technique. So why should the protocol be the same?

The ZAGA Protocol for Quadruple Zygoma Implant Installation presents a patient-specific approach to rehabilitating the severely atrophic maxilla with four zygomatic implants, moving away from one-size-fits-all techniques toward an anatomy-guided strategy.

From the evolution of surgical techniques, to the Zygomatic Implant Critical Zone, to the rationale behind tunnel vs. channel osteotomies and site-specific implant designs (Straumann ZAGA Round and ZAGA Flat). Swipe through for the key concepts.

Published by Dr. Carlos Aparicio, Antoine Chehade, Dr. David Wei-Kai Hsu, and Dr. Guy McLellan in the Atlas of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North America (2025).

Our ZAGA doctors, proudly certified 💙

From Valencia to Cancún to Ho Chi Minh City… three different continents, one shared commitment: giving patients with severe maxillary atrophy a solution when others said there was none.

The ZAGA 2026 certification means these clinicians have trained to master the anatomy-guided approach and apply it where it matters most: in the most complex cases.

Congratulations to our certified clinics!

A complex case. A deliberate strategy.
Dr. Zahi Khouri at ZAGA Center Adelaide treated a young patient whose natural dentition had been destroyed by acid reflux caused by bulimia, combined with extreme bruxism and parafunction. The challenge required more than a standard approach.

Dr. Khouri's solution: a hybrid protocol combining zygomatic, pterygoid, and conventional implants, deliberately over-engineered to future-proof the rehabilitation against the patient's high-risk biomechanical profile. A fixed maxillary prosthesis opposing a fixed implant-retained mandibular prosthesis.

When the anatomy is challenging and the functional demands are extreme, the treatment plan must be tailored accordingly.

This is an example of what ZAGA-trained clinicians achieve in their daily practice.
