Catalan is so interesting. If you’ve studied both French and Spanish, you can understand probably 90% when seeing it written. I’ve also noticed a bit of Portuguese influence.

Traveling in Ireland is fascinating for a lot of reasons, but especially the Irish language. I’ve never taken the time to dive into it, but wow, it is so different from English — with the occasional exception when you can recognize certain words. If you want to hear Irish spoken, they say you have to travel to the west side of the island, which is where we are right now. And I got a handful of friendly folk (they’re ALL friendly) to help me with a few words and phrases.
Pictured is one of those exceptions. :-)

Did you do dictation in English or a foreign language? Here is a mass dictation exercise on Paris’s iconic Boulevard des Champs Élysées where over 1700 desks were set up for the 5,000 participants from 10 to 90 years old! The event was organized by novelist Rachid Santaki to celebrate and promote literacy.

This Italian expression on a book stall caught my attention. Translated literally: whoever reads has long legs. Translated figuratively: whoever reads takes long strides through life, implying not only knowledge but also . Seen in Siena, Tuscany.

When your veteran actor/ next door neighbor asks for coaching in Dutch for an important audition. French and Spanish, sure, but it’s not every day I get requests for Dutch! 😄
