Oriol Vilanova ( ) transforms postcards into portals. His practice reshapes how we see history, collecting, and the images that build our cultural memory.

Central to his work is a vast collection of over 166,000 postcards, amassed from flea markets and second-hand bookstores. These postcards serve as both medium and metaphor, challenging the commodification of culture and the authority of the museum. Vilanova uses installations, performances, and publications to show these artifacts in new ways and to question who decides what is culturally important and remembered.

Oriol Vilanova will be represent Spanish Pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale (2026), with the project “Los Restos”, curated by Carles Guerra.

The installation will transform the Spanish Pavilion into an immersive space, where 50,000 postcards will completely cover the walls, creating a visual “atlas” that explores memory and the accumulation of images. Vilanova will also present a series of performances at the Pavilion and various locations across Venice.

àngels barcelona – espai 2 / project space presents a video art exhibition during the Loop Festival 2025.
(C. Dels Àngels, 16, 08001, Barcelona)

12-22.11.2025

This exhibition gathers five video works that explore the relationship between urban space and social transformation. Through perspectives ranging from the aftermath of war and speculative smart-city infrastructures to performative encounters, silent spatial studies, and acts of resistance, the artists examine how cities influence - and are influenced by - human actions, technologies, and collective aspirations. Together, the works reflect the poetic and political tensions that shape contemporary urban life.
