Things I wish I knew before packing for study abroad 👣🧳✈️🎒📝

Like many other students preparing for their study abroad experience, I remember feeling super stressed about what to pack. So after a few weeks of living as a student in Barcelona, here’s a list of things I would be sure to bring for any future/prospective students out there. To current/past students, let us know if there’s anything we missed!

What I Did after classes: Explore L’Aquàrium de Barcelona! 🐠

Studying abroad with ALBA means having the free time to do solo activities such as this.

Standing in the oceanarium tunnel with sharks and stingrays swimming right over your head is unreal. I 10/10 recommend checking this out if you’re in the city! 🦈✨

Visiting Hospital Sant Pau 🏥🌳
Imagine going to the hospital and ending up in a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 😭✨

Hospital de Sant Pau was designed with one big idea: BEAUTIFUL SPACES HELP PEOPLE HEAL.
So instead of one giant building, patients stayed in separate pavilions connected by underground tunnels, surrounded by gardens and sunlight. 🌿

Honestly… hospitals need this comeback.

📌Fun fact: It’s older than the Sagrada Família (construction began in 1902).

Hi! It’s Sophia! Travel with me to Barcelona to start my study abroad experience ✈️🚌📍

This was my very first time traveling alone internationally, and although it was initially nerve-wracking, it was a perfect and fitting start to my summer abroad—6 weeks full of new experiences and global perspectives, cultural immersion, and both interpersonal and intrapersonal growth.

I’m excited to share more of my journey in the coming weeks. Cheers to ALBA, Barcelona, and a great summer term! ☺️📚☀️

Spring quarter: done🌸✨

Barcelona, you gave me so much more than a quarter abroad. You gave me a home away from home, incredible friendships, unforgettable memories, and the opportunity to explore places I only dreamed of seeing. I’m so grateful for every moment, every adventure, and every person who made this experience so special.
