-The Barcelona Institute for Global Health - ISGlobal. DETAILED DESCRIPTION:
The Barcelona Global Health Summer School 2015 “Climate Change and Health: Understanding the ch
allenge, exploring solutions” and the Conference of Parties (COP) Simulation will take place from the 12th to the 19th July 2015. It is not only about the poles melting into liquid or wildlife being jeopardized or forced to migrate. Modifications in the world’s natural conditions, even if at first imperceptible, have a profound impact on our health, either directly or indirectly. It is due time to develop a more comprehensive understanding of climate change’s impact on people, now and in the future, and to take action to mitigate its effects. The 2015 Barcelona Global Health Summer School (12nd-17th July): This event aims to provide a complete overview of the interaction between climate change and health to students and young professionals from different backgrounds. At the end of the week, participants will understand and be able to analyse different determinants of health, including environmental factors, the direct and indirect effects of climate change on health, and political, economic and strategic approaches to the problem and its potential solutions. Faculty includes leading experts in the field from European academic and research institutions as well as representatives of the World Health Organization, the World Meteorological Organization and the International Organization for Migration. The Conference of Parties Simulation (17th-19th July): The Summer School participants will also have the opportunity to join a COP simulation that will allow them to put in practice their advocacy skills and the knowledge acquired during the previous week. The COP is complementary to the Summer School but also separate, as you can participate in the COP Simulation without attending the later and vice versa. Being one of the most challenging issues that our society currently faces, it is crucial that students and young professionals acknowledge the importance of climate change and its consequences both on an individual and collective scale.
