Our next webinar will be live on Youtube soon!

In this third webinar we will explore the links between structural violence and climate justice. In an attempt to get past the developmentalist “sustainability” and eco-modernist narratives we will present alternative forms of climate action, ones that also attempt to address systemic racial, gender and colonial injustices, that focus on diversifying power, and that recognise that the climate is an ecological and political issue.

Living Degowth Now with François Schneider! Can Decreix, a house of degrowth 06/03/2021

Living Degrowth Now! Can Decreix, a house of degrowth.
MARCH 9th at 5 pm Barcelona time

Each year half of the degrowth summer school took place in Can Decreix, a “house of degrowth'' at the French/Spanish border. This webinar presents this place and ideas behind it. Other systems are possible! Especially ones that tie together simple frugal practices, convivial technologies, alternative worldviews, low-techs etc. And places of practice are super important to change our imaginaries at other scales too. It is not about a new market niche. Each solution is linked to local conditions. Can Decreix is not meant to be cloned but it is meant to encourage self-reflection about the systemic prevention of pollution, about finding creative ways to adapt to surrounding conditions. Can Decreix is also an invitation to develop a different relation to time, reuse cascades of materials , debound systems, frugal innovation, open localism and convivial encounters. We learn from mistakes, and we accumulate practical knowledge and share it. In the past 10 years we have experimented a lot and still will - join us! Let us just try!

The Degrowth Summer School presents new webinar series – Degrowth Dialogues

Digitalisation that took place last year due to national lockdowns, among all the other things, has inspired us to create more accessible content in online format. We see that online content around the Degrowth approach leads to flourishing interest in it and engage people with varied backgrounds in activism, academia or completely new to what Degrowth has to offer.

Therefore, the Degrowth Summer School team is happy to announce a new free online webinar series – Degrowth Dialogues. This will be live-streamed every few weeks since mid-February and until the end of June – the time when traditional Summer School starts.

Degrowth Dialogues will cover various topics starting from the very introduction to Degrowth, and following how to live Degrowth on the example of Can Decreix – House of Degrowth. Later on we will present dialogues on eco-feminism, critiques of “technological fixes” to climate change, coloniality, Degrowth Policy Proposals and more.

Climate and Intersectionality - a realigned discussion about climate and environmental justice 21/07/2020

This is a third Degrowth Talk with Houria Djoudi, Tonny Nowshin, Majandra Rodriguez Acha, Mithika Mwenda.

We will be LIVE on 23rd July at 6pm CEST.

In a discussion that brings together academia and activism, we will reflect upon how gender, race and class relate to the climate crisis and environmental destruction, and on how colonial continuities manifest in both the climate movement and mainstream environmental discourses. These different types of violence cannot be seen in isolation, intersectional issues require an intersectional response. How is neo-colonial extractivism and patriarchy challenged by the groups it invisibilises? Can degrowth align with decolonial, intersectional climate movements and support powerful inclusive narratives?
