People often ask me why I left the Philippines when I already had a good career.

The truth is…

I didn’t leave because I hated my life there.

I had a stable job.
I was able to travel for work and leisure.
I could help support my family.

But as the eldest child, I constantly felt torn between living for my family and building a life for myself.

I wanted more—not because what I had wasn’t enough, but because I dreamed of a future where I could give more to both.

Sometimes, building that future meant saying “no” to the people I loved.

That was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made.

Moving to Spain wasn’t running away from my responsibilities.

It was my way of creating a life where I hope I can fulfill them even better in the future.

It hasn’t been easy.

There were moments of guilt.
Moments of loneliness.
Moments when I questioned if I had made the right decision.

But looking back, I realize something.

This journey didn’t just change me.

It changed my family too.

We’ve all grown through it.

And maybe… that’s what growing up really looks like. ♥️🇪🇸

"Ms. Ira, WORTH IT BA i-risk yung savings ko sa Spain?"

A hard question indeed. But if you ask me, I would definitely say yes—despite all the hardships it entails.

Here are my gains and losses after risking my savings to study in Spain.

I didn't have a scholarship at first. I didn't come here rich. I didn't come here supported or sponsored by anyone. Like many of you, I just had a dream and a deep desire to grow - for myself and my family.

Losses? I had to pay tuition (at first, cos I surprisingly got a full tuition fee scholarship), secure housing, afford food and transport — all while supporting my family back home. I missed birthdays. I missed milestones. I lost time with my best friends. And honestly, I lost a lot of confidence in myself too. New country, new systems, new language, and my health struggled - skin, hair, weight, stress.

But slowly, it got better.

Gains? after a year of hard work, i converted my student visa to a work visa (residencia!). I've found amazing people — a landlady who feels like family, friends who get what it means to start over, and a partner who's kind, sincere, and supports me even from afar. No, he's not my sponsor. I still hustle — for me.

And above all, I gained something more powerful than any visa or salary: compassion for myself. I gave myself permission to rest. to learn slowly. To not have it all figured out right away.
