Here’s how you solve it. Fast.

We buy books, we read sheet music, we obsess over fi*****ng — and we completely forget about the music itself.

So here’s a challenge for you: can you sing or hum the piece you’re trying to play? Even just in your head. I don’t care if you can’t sing.

Because if you can hear it in your mind, the moment your fingers know where to go — you’ll play it right. Naturally. In time.

But if you know the fi*****ng and have no idea what it’s supposed to sound like? That’s the real problem. And it’s the most common one I see.

Music is learned by listening. A lot. Before you even touch the guitar. If you don’t spend enough time listening to what you want to learn, playing it in time is going to be a serious struggle.

In a flamenco show, the dancer rests. The singer rests.

Everyone gets a moment to breathe.

The guitarist never rests. 🎸

The guitar is always there — holding everything together, following the dancer, supporting the singer, resolving whatever happens on stage in real time.

Flamenco has a structure. But within that structure, anything can happen. And the guitarist has to be sharp enough, alive enough, to react to whatever comes — and make it look like it was planned all along.

That’s not just technique. That’s intelligence. That’s experience. That’s flamenco.

Do you know where the word Taranto comes from? 🎸

Back in the day, flamenco wasn't born on a stage. It was born in the mines — in the deepest, darkest corners of Andalusia, where men risked their lives every single day.

When the shift ended, people would gather and ask: "Are they all back? Did everyone make it?"

In Spanish: "Estarán todos… estarán todos…"

That phrase — repeated over and over, hoping no one had died — slowly shortened over time.

Estarán todos… estarán… taranto.

That's where the word comes from. A cry of relief. A prayer answered. A flamenco style born from fear, hope, and survival. 🖤

Most people know there are minor chords and major chords. But a lot of people don’t know that flamenco chords exist too.

A minor, A major, and A flamenco are three completely different things. And I often see people calling a flamenco chord a “major chord” — that’s a mistake. 🎸

So take this with you:

There are flamenco styles played in minor keys. Others played in major keys. And others played in the flamenco key. But not every style uses the flamenco tonality — and knowing the difference is everything.

Motivation is everything… Without it, the guitar ends up in a corner — and suddenly you’re buying a bike or signing up for tennis. Nothing wrong with that. But that’s not where I want to be.

I’ve been teaching online since 2012, and the pattern is always the same: students who don’t have a clear “why” eventually disappear. Not because they’re lazy — but because nothing was pulling them forward.

So what motivates me?

Being on stage. Playing alongside people I admire, people I love like family. Contributing my guitar to a cantaor, to a dancer — being at their service, in the moment, making music together. That feeling can’t be explained. It can only be lived. 🎸

Now I want to know about you.
