Departamento de Fundamentos de Análisis Económico de la Universidad de Alicante (FAE).

The Department of Fundamentals of Economic Analysis of the University of Alicante is a research-oriented centre. The team is composed of about 40 full-time faculty members who received their doctoral degrees from top universities around the world. The research fields are very varied, covering most areas of modern economic research: behavioural, evolutionary and experimental economics; economic growth and development; economic history; finance; game theory; health economics; industrial organisation; labour economics; microeconometrics; macroeconomics; public sector economics; social networks; statistics and econometrics; urban, rural and regional economics; and welfare economics. The aim of the department is to consolidate a team capable of sustaining the highest standards of quality in both research and teaching. It promotes high quality research by providing the necessary infrastructure and a stimulating environment. It holds several weekly seminars and is supported by the Valencian Institute of Economic Research to disseminate its studies through its AD series of working papers. The department is ranked among the top 5 economics departments in Spain and is one of the most productive departments in Europe in per capita terms.

We are pleased to announce the Opening Ceremony of the Master's in Economics with Data Science! 🎓

The event will feature an inaugural session with two guest speakers:

🎙 Rafael Valero ( Barclays UK ) – From the classroom to international banking: data analysis in finance
🎙 Gabriel Pérez (Banco de España) – Economics with data science in central banking practice

Diplomas will also be awarded to the graduates of the Master's in Quantitative Economics and the Master's in Economics with Data Science.

We look forward to welcoming all new students and celebrating the start of the new academic year!

📢 Our recently graduated PhD student, Alberto Pérez-Bernabeu, presented one of his research papers about housing at the 33rd Finance Forum, the Annual Meeting of the Spanish Finance Association, held at the UA - Universitat d'Alacant / Universidad de Alicante on 8–10 July 2026.

The paper, entitled “Networked UK Housing Markets: Implications for Systemic Risk and Macroprudential Design”, co-authored by our colleague Iván Payá, examines the evolution of the connectivity across regional housing markets in the United Kingdom and its implications for systemic risk and the effectivity of macroprudential policies.

👏 We would like to congratulate Alberto on presenting their research at this prestigious conference.

The defense took place at the UA - Universitat d'Alacant / Universidad de Alicante, with the thesis "Nowcasting with High-Frequency Information".

Supervised by Dr. Gabriel Pérez Quirós and Dr. Fidel Pérez Sebastián, and evaluated by Dr. Beatrice Pierluigi (ECB), Dr. Ángel Manuel León Valle (UA), and Dr. Danilo Leiva León (Federal Reserve Bank of Boston).
