Having gone south in search of the sun, we were treated to a fascinating tour of Badajoz by one of my students - who hails from there - and his dad. With such knowledgeable guides we were given an insight into the history of the city, on condition that we promise not to tell anyone how pretty it is so as to avoid the hordes of tourists that descend on Caceres, Seville etc!🤫🤫

Classes will proceed as usual on Monday and Tuesday of this week, but on Wednesday 1st April the school will be closed for the Easter holiday. The course will restart on the 13th April.

You're unlikely to see a better game than Scotland-France last Saturday, where Scotland beat the favourites 50 - 40, scoring 7 tries in the process. To celebrate the 8th of March, this week we're looking at trail-blazing women, with the focus on Hollie Davidson, the first woman to referee a men's 6-nations match. Happy New Year!! Back to work in a chilly office, it's just as well I had mum's traditional Christmas cake to accompany my mug of tea. A healthier, icing-free version this year, it's delicious, so if you needed extra motivation to come to class this week, here it is!

In the post-match interview with Steve Clarke, they said there was the easy way, the hard way and the Scotland way, and the match against Denmark was no exception! Needing a win, Scotland went into injury time drawing 2-2, but a cracking goal by Kieran Tierney - who did a stint at Real Sociedad a year or two ago - and a long shot from his own half by Kenny McLean clinched the match when all seemed lost. See the link for post-match celebrations, with an adulterated version of Gala's Freed from Desire ("Scotland's on fire, your defence is terrified"). At last we've qualified for a World Cup, for the first time since 1998. I reckon half my students hadn't even been born then!!
