The Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engines and Combustion Devices (LICECD) at Tanta University's Faculty of Engineering in Tanta, Egypt, was established through the efforts of Prof. Dr. Eng. Medhat Elkelawy and his team. The lab focuses on advancing research and development in the field of internal combustion engines, with particular attention to improving engine efficiency, reducing emissions, and exploring alternative fuels. This laboratory serves as a hub for innovation, where students and researchers can engage in cutting-edge studies in combustion technologies, supporting both academic growth and industry advancements in Egypt.
The Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engines and Combustion Devices (LICECD) is a research facility focused on internal combustion engines, covering a wide spectrum of activities related to engine performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions. It involves collaborative work that spans from the chemistry of fuels to the application of combustion technologies in real engines and vehicles. The lab also explores emerging fuel technologies, working to assess and develop new combustion techniques and alternative fuels to improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The lab is structured into various sub-sectors, each dedicated to critical aspects of sustainable energy and engine performance. These sub-sectors include:
1. Biodiesel and Bio-ethanol Production Technology: This sector explores alternative biofuels, focusing on the production and optimization of biodiesel and bio-ethanol to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
2. Green Hydrogen and HHO (Hydrogen-on-Demand): Research in this area investigates hydrogen as a clean fuel source, focusing on technologies like electrolysis to produce green hydrogen and HHO for reducing engine emissions.
3. Diesel Engine and Spark Ignition (SI) Engine Performance and Emissions Study: This sub-sector analyzes the efficiency and emissions of both diesel and SI engines, aiming to enhance their environmental performance and fuel economy.
4. Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) Studies: Focuses on integrating combustion engines with electric powertrains to develop more efficient and lower-emission hybrid vehicles.
5. Biomass and Biogas Combustion in Industrial Furnaces: This sector deals with the use of renewable biomass and biogas as fuels in industrial furnaces, studying combustion processes and emissions to improve sustainability in industrial applications.
The lab's interdisciplinary approach allows it to contribute to the development of more sustainable energy systems and advanced combustion technologies, directly addressing environmental and energy challenges in both automotive and industrial sectors.
