The Olive Grove

Today, I was finally able to visit an Egyptian olive grove. I’ve always loved the taste of olives with their strong and powerful flavor. Did you know that they are some of the most resilient plants? Olives not only grow in arid climates but also can absorb saltwater. However, this climate makes the growth process very slow. One olive, believe it or not, takes 3 YEARS until it is ready for harvest.

Learning a foreign language is like growing an olive tree. It is hard, long, and difficult but with perseverance, the slow and steady process will give rise to the most powerful fruit.

2. Test yourself- Retrieval Practice

This method is effective at any stage of the study process. Write down several topics you are studying. Without looking at any other materials, write down as much relevant information about the subject. If you can’t get that much on paper, it is okay! Switch the topic and repeat the process. Retrieval practice is well known for solidifying information into long term memory. It works as a great strategy to identify areas that need more review!
