The Middle East Cooperation Unit at Brandenburg University of Technology is Hiring in Egypt!
We are pleased to share that the Bazar Abbas – Recovery Lab of Port Said project has been officially extended through the end of 2025.
As part of this new phase, we are hiring a certified Project Consultant with proven expertise in heritage conservation. The selected consultant will support our efforts to safeguard and prepare the historic Bazar Abbas in Port Said for future rehabilitation.

REVITALIZATION OF HISTORIC WATERFRONT
Case Study of The Suez Canal Cities
Join us in an integrated urban design workshop in Port Said and Ismailia in Egypt. The Workshop is focusing on exploring the historic waterfront challenges and potentials. These waterfronts have played vital roles throughout history, enduring periods of prosperity and degradation, peace and conflict while serving both locals and foreigners. Today, these areas struggle to maintain their integrity and identity in the face of modern pressures. Thus, waterfronts are consistently among the most attractive points in historic cities, drawing not only locals and visitors but also investors and governmental development plans.
Target Group:
The application is open for senior bachelor’s students and master’s students in the fields of architecture, urban design, urban planning, and heritage studies.
This workshop is exclusively for partner universities involved in the project, which include:
Brandenburg University of Technology, Germany
Cairo University, Egypt
Alexandria University, Egypt
Mansoura University, Egypt
Baghdad University, Iraq
University of Kurdistan Hewlêr, Iraq

Workshop on Integrated Urban Rehabilitation
Port Said – July 6th to 16th, 2024
Join us in exploring innovative strategies and tools for the integrated rehabilitation of Bazar Abbas in the historic core of Port Said and its surrounding neighborhoods. This workshop will cover a variety of topics including the adaptive reuse of built heritage, preservation of intangible heritage and city rebranding, public space improvement and environmental sustainability, promotion of cultural tourism and socio-economic development, as well as sustainable mobility and infrastructure integration. This unique opportunity offers participants a comprehensive understanding of urban rehabilitation and heritage preservation.
Target Group:
We invite Egyptian senior bachelor’s students, young graduates, and master’s students in the fields of architecture, urban design, and urban planning to apply.

*JOIN US FOR AN ARCHITECTURAL & URBAN REHABILITATION INTERNSHIP*
The internship presents an opportunity for participants to engage in crafting the rehabilitation strategy for Bazar Abbas in Port Said. It aims to equip interns with a deep understanding of rehabilitation principles and processes in collaboration with the local community and project partners. The rehabilitation plan focuses on adaptive reuse proposals, architectural design, and open space planning. This internship is coordinated by the local project partner, Port Said Ala Adeemo, in cooperation with other project partners, within the framework of the "Bazar Abbas: Recovery Lab of Port Said" project funded by CPF - British Council.

*Call for Training Participation*
This training is the third event of the project "Bazar Abbas: Recovery Lab of PortSaid." The training provides trainees with an understanding of conservation principles processes, technical terminology, and conservation ethics.
Furthermore, it will offer practical knowledge, covering the restoration of materials such as plaster, wood, and steel, while emphasizing the importance of documentation throughout the conservation process.
Target Group: Talented young architects from Egypt will be selected to work closely with a group of 15 trainees, Priority is given to Portsaidis Architects.
This training is organized in the framework of our project "Abbas Bazaar: Recovery Lab of Port Said" funded by CPF - British Council.

New collaboration announcement! 🎉✨
We've got some thrilling news to share with you all! We are excited to share our new cooperation with UN-Habitat through the Urban Regeneration Flagship Programme “Inclusive Communities, Thriving Cities” and the UN-Habitat Egypt Office. The UN-H team will be leading the "Socio-Economic Regeneration" part, as one of the five tasks that will be covered throughout our next urban regeneration workshop.
Together, we'll unlock innovative solutions, share knowledge, and drive positive change for urban communities in Port Said!

Call for workshop Participation
This workshop is the second event of the project "Bazar Abbas: Recovery Lab of Port Said." The event is dedicated to exploring diverse scenarios for the urban recovery of Bazar Abbas and its immediate urban surroundings. We will approach the task through various recovery methodologies, including integrated conservation and development, participatory planning, resilience planning, adaptive reuse, and heritage-led regeneration. Through expert inputs, excursions, engaging discussions, and hands-on activities, participants will gain invaluable insights and practical skills to envision and shape the future of Bazar Abbas.
Target Group: Senior Bachelor’s students, graduates and Master’s students in the fields of architecture, Urban Design, and Urban planning .15 places are available for Egyptian students studying at Egyptian Universities and 5 places are available for master’s students studying at Brandenburg University of Cottbus-Senftenberg. This workshop is organised in the framework of our project "Abbas Bazaar: Recovery Lab of Port Said" funded by CPF - British Council.
