Al-Imaam ash-Shafi’ee said: "When a person intends to speak, then upon him is to think before he speaks. Then if it is evident that there is some benefit then he may speak. However, if there is doubt then do not speak, until it becomes clear (about whether it is beneficial or not)."

Imperative Verbs

Imperative verbs are verbs used to give commands, instructions, requests, or advice. They tell someone what to do.

1. How Imperative Verbs Work

The imperative form uses the base form of the verb (the infinitive without “to”).

There is no subject because the subject is always understood to be “you”.

Examples:

Sit down.

Open the door.

Write your name.

(These all mean: “You sit down,” “You open the door,” etc.)

---

2. Uses of Imperative Verbs

a. Giving commands

Stop!

Listen!

b. Giving instructions

Turn left at the corner.

Mix the ingredients.

c. Making requests (polite imperatives)

You can add “please” to make the imperative polite:

Please help me.

Please wait a moment.

d. Giving advice

Try your best.

Be careful.

---

3. Negative Imperatives

To make a negative command, use “don’t” + base verb.

Examples:

Don’t touch that.

Don’t be late.

---

4. Let’s / Let me / Let him… (Imperative with “let”)

Used to suggest or allow an action.

Let’s go. (suggestion)

Let me try.

Let him speak.

Shaking Hands - A Cause Of Forgiveness For A Believer

قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : ما من مسلمين يلتقيان فيتصافحان إلا غفر لهما قبل أن يتفرقا.

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “No two Muslims meet each other then shake hands except that they are forgiven (by Allāh) before they part.”
