📘 What does the Dubai BIM Standard actually require?

Many engineers use Revit…

But very few understand how models must be prepared for official submission in Dubai.

The Dubai BIM Standard is not about modeling only — it defines how information must be structured to be accepted by authorities.

Key concepts covered:

🔹 BIM is used as a digital permit approval system

Authorities review models — not only drawings

🔹 Models must follow ISO 19650 information management workflow

Roles, responsibilities, and data exchange procedures are defined

🔹 Submission format is OpenBIM (IFC)

Native files alone are not acceptable

🔹 Level of Information Need (LOD) is mandatory

Different permit stages require different model detail

🔹 Geo-referencing is required

Models must match real-world coordinates (Dubai Local TM)

🔹 Naming conventions & classification

Files, elements, rooms, and levels must follow structured coding
