In collaboration with the Faculty of Arts, Department of English Language and Literature, the Cairo University Centre for Foreign Languages and Professional Translation (CLT) is pleased to announce the launch of a:

أدارت الدكتورة لميس النقاش، المدرس بالقسم، ندوة لمناقشة كتاب «مرايا السينما بين الأدب والإنسانيات»، تحرير الأستاذة الدكتورة سلمى مبارك.

فرصة للطلاب للإستفادة من التجربة الثرية لأحد أبرز خريجي القسم وهو الأديب محمد سلماوي من خلال حضور ندوته تحت رعاية الأستاذ الدكتور محمد سامي عبد الصادق، رئيس جامعة القاهرة، بعنوان "رحلة التكوين والانتماء: من مدرجات الجامعة إلى فضاء الثقافة والصحافة".
وتعد هذه الندوة فرصة للتعرّف على مسيرته الملهمة في مجالي الثقافة والصحافة.

ناقشت الدكتورة مريم النقر، المدرس بالقسم، والأستاذة رانيا النحراوي، المعيدة بالقسم، كتاب "كيفك إنت .. زياد الرحباني" للكاتب والشاعر إبراهيم عبد الفتاح بمكتبة الميكروفون ضمن فعالية مهرجان الربيع الثقافي.

Celebrating the centenary of the English department, we proudly honor the inspiring journey of Professor Dalia El-Shayal.

A distinguished Professor of English and American Literature at Cairo University, her academic path shines with excellence, dedication, and global impact. Specializing in African American
Theater, she earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in the field and went on to achieve remarkable international recognition.

She was the recipient of several Fulbright grants, two of which were at Harvard University, where she collaborated with the renowned Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. as a visiting researcher and professor. She also taught at Boston University, further enriching global academic exchange.

Her teaching philosophy at Cairo University and worldwide celebrates creativity and connection, blending literature with visual arts and interdisciplinary perspectives. She has represented
Egyptian academia on international stages, lecturing across Europe, Asia, and the United States, and joined three times as a fellow at the Salzburg Global Seminar, an organization dedicated to
fostering cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary dialogue on global issues.

Professor El-Shayal’s contributions extend to impactful research and award-winning translations, including her celebrated Arabic translation of Harper Lee’s renowned novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. She has also played key leadership roles within Cairo University as the head of the cultural committee at the Faculty of Arts as well as a member of the technical committee for international collaboration at Cairo University.

Dr. Elshayal was an editor and coordinator of translated books at the University of Arkansas Press, USA. Her nomination for the Nile Prize—Egypt’s highest honor in research and the arts—stands as a testament to her exceptional influence and legacy.

Today, we celebrate not only her achievements, but also her belief that literature is a powerful lens through which we understand the world and ourselves.
