الِاسْمُ مِن حَيْثُ العَدَدُ: ( المُفْرَدُ وَالمُثَنَّى وَالجَمْعُ )
Noun in Terms of Number: ( Singular, Dual, and Plural )
١- اِلاسْمُ المُفْرَدُ
تَعْرِيفُهُ: الِاسْمُ المُفْرَدُ هُوَ كُلُّ اسْمٍ يَدُلُّ عَلَى وَاحِدٍ، سَوَاءٌ كَانَ مُذَكَّرًا أَوْ مُؤَنَّثًا، مِنَ الإِنْسَانِ، أَوِ الحَيَوَانِ، أَوِ الجَمَادِ، وَلَا يَدُلُّ فِي صِيغَتِهِ عَلَى أَكْثَرَ مِنْ وَاحِدٍ، وَلَا يَكُونُ مُثَنًّى وَلَا جَمْعًا.
1- A Singular Noun
Definition: A singular noun is any noun that refers to one entity, whether masculine or feminine from humans, animals, or inanimate objects. It does not indicate more than one in its form and is neither dual nor plural
Examples :أَمْثِلَة
• وَلَدٌ (boy)
• بِنْتٌ (girl)
• كِتَابٌ (book)
• شَجَرَةٌ (tree)
• مُعَلِّمٌ (teacher)
٢- الاسمُ المُثَنَّى
تَعْرِيفُهُ: الاسمُ المثنَّى هو ما يَدُلُّ على اثْنِيْنِ أَوِ اثْنَتَيْنِ بِزِيَادةِ أَلِفٍ وَنُونٍ (انِ) (aani) في حَالَةِ الرَّفْعِ، وَيَاءٍ وَنُونٍ (يْنِ) (ayni) في حَالَتَيْ النَّصْبِ وَالجَرِّ، دُونَ تَغْيِيرٍ في بِنَاءِ مُفْرَدِهِ.
2- A Dual Noun
Definition:
The dual noun is that which indicates two (masculine or feminine) by adding an "alif" and "noon" (انِ) (aani) in the nominative case, and a "yaa" and "noon" (يْنِ) (ayni) in the accusative and genitive cases, without any change in the structure of its singular form.
Examples :أمثلة
• طَالِبَانِ - طَالِبَيْنِ (two students)
• كِتَابَانِ - كِتَابَيْنِ (two books)
• مُعَلِّمَانِ - مُعَلِّمَيْنِ (two teachers)
• بِنْتَانِ - بِنْتَيْنِ (two girls)
• شَجَرَتَانِ - شَجَرَتَيْنِ (two trees)
٣- الاسمُ الجَمْعُ
تعريفه: الجمعُ هو ما يدلُّ على أَكْثَرَ مِنَ اثْنَيْنِ. وَلَهُ ثَلَاثَةُ أَنْوَاعٍ:
3- A Plural Noun
Definition: A plural noun refers to more than two persons, places, or things. There are three types:
أ- جَمْعُ المُذَكَّرِ السَّالِم
تعريفه: جَمْعُ المُذَكَّرِ السَّالِمُ هُوَ كُلُّ اسْمٍ مُذَكَّرٍ عَاقِلٍ يُدَلُّ بِهِ عَلَى أَكْثَرَ مِنِ اثْنَيْنِ بِزِيَادَةِ وَاوٍ وَنُونٍ فِي حَالَةِ الرَّفْعِ، أَوْ يَاءٍ وَنُونٍ فِي حَالَتَيِ النَّصْبِ وَالجَرِّ، دُونَ أَنْ يَطْرَأَ عَلَيْهِ تَغْيِيرٌ فِي بِنَائِهِ.
A- The Sound Masculine Plural
Definition: The sound masculine plural is any masculine noun referring to a rational being that denotes more than two by adding “Waw” (ـونَ) and “Nun” in the nominative case or “Ya” (ـينَ) and “Nun” in the accusative and genitive cases, without any change in its root structure.
Examples :أمثلة
• مُعَلِّمُونَ - مُعَلِّمِينَ (teachers)
• مُهَنْدِسُونَ - مُهَنْدِسِينَ (engineers)
• مُؤْمِنُونَ - مُؤْمِنِينَ (believers)
• مُسْلِمُونَ - مُسْلِمِينَ (Muslims)
• كَاتِبُونَ - كَاتِبِينَ (writers)
ب- جمعُ المُؤَنَّثِ السَّالِم
تعريفه: جَمْعُ المُؤَنَّثِ السَّالِمُ هُوَ كُلُّ اسْمٍ مُؤَنَّثٍ يُدَلُّ بِهِ عَلَى أَكْثَرَ مِنِ اثْنَتَيْنِ بِزِيَادَةِ أَلِفٍ وَتَاءٍ عَلَى مُفْرَدِهِ، دُونَ أَنْ يَطْرَأَ عَلَيْهِ تَغْيِيرٌ فِي بِنَائِهِ، إِلَّا إِذَا كَانَ مُخْتُومًا بِتَاءِ مَرْبُوطَةٍ فَتُحْذَفُ التَّاءُ عِنْدَ الجَمْعِ.
B- The Sound feminine Plural
Definition: The sound feminine plural is any feminine noun that denotes more than two by adding an “Alif” (ـا) and “Ta” (ـت) to its singular form, without any change in its structure, except if it ends with a tied “Ta” (ة), which is dropped in the plural form.
Examples :أمثلة
• مُعَلِّمَاتٌ - مُعَلِّمَاتٍ (teachers)
• طَبِيبَاتٌ - طَبِيبَاتٍ (doctors)
• مُهَنْدِسَاتٌ - مُهَنْدِسَاتٍ (engineers)
• مُمَرِّضَاتٌ - مُمَرِّضَاتٍ (nurses)
• شُجَيْرَاتٌ - شُجَيْرَاتٍ (small trees)
ج- جمعُ التَّكْسِيرِ
تَعْرِيفُهُ: جَمْعُ التَّكْسِيرِ هُوَ كُلُّ جَمْعٍ يَدُلُّ عَلَى أَكْثَرَ مِنْ وَاحِدٍ مَعَ تَغْيِيرٍ فِي شَكْلِ مُفْرَدِهِ، إِمَّا بِزِيَادَةِ أَحْرُفٍ، أَوْ نَقْصِهَا، أَوْ تَغْيِيرِ الحَرَكَاتِ.
C- Broken Plural
Definition: Broken plural is any plural form that indicates more than one while changing the structure of its singular form. This change can occur by either adding letters, removing letters, or altering vowel markings
Examples :أمثلة
• رَجُلٌ → رِجَالٌ (men)
• كِتَابٌ → كُتُبٌ (books)
• وَلَدٌ → أَوْلَادٌ (boys)
• مَدِينَةٌ → مُدُنٌ (cities)
• بَيْتٌ → بُيُوتٌ (houses)

٢- حَوِّل الأَسْمَاءَ المُفْرَدَةَ إلى مُثَنًّى ثَُّم إلى جَمْعٍ:
• مُعَلِّمٌ
• مَدْرَسَةٌ
• طَالِبٌ
1- Identify the singular, dual, and plural nouns in the following sentences:
I read a useful book.

2- Change the singular nouns into dual and then into plural:
