A new milestone for UK-Egypt higher education.

University of Exeter, National Ain Shams University and Ain Shams University have signed Heads of Terms in Cairo. Through this strategic partnership supported by the Egyptian government, the University of Exeter (ranked 136th globally) will become the first Russell Group university to provide degrees in North Africa. The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to academic excellence, collaborative research and developing future talent for Egypt and the wider region.

Researcher Challenges Grants 2026 are now open!

Are you looking to build international research partnerships and tackle global challenges through collaboration?
The British Council's Going Global Partnerships programme is offering grants of up to £40,000 to support collaborative research between UK higher education institutions and eligible partners in Egypt, Brazil, Morocco, and Palestine.

Projects should address global challenges such as:
Climate change
Sustainable energy transitions
Public health
Food security
AI for development

Key information:
Grant amount: Up to £40,000
Project duration: 12 months (starting January 2027)
Eligible applicants: UK higher education institutions and not-for-profit research institutions partnering with eligible organisations in Egypt, Brazil, Morocco, or Palestine
Application deadline: 17 September 2026, 11:00 a.m. BST

As one of 12 creative producers from 12 countries, Mona joined an international network of arts leaders to exchange ideas, build new partnerships and explore opportunities for future creative collaboration. Her rich experience producing festivals and managing cultural events in Egypt contributed valuable perspectives to these international conversations.
