Phishing
Many phishing attacks rely on pre-established relationships, often from contact via social engineering. The success of this phishing attack relied partly on the fact that the booking was made because the request was urgent and Marco was therefore less cautious.
Successful delivery of the infection does not solely rely on the opening of the attachment by the first recipient, but by those who would be more likely to trust it, because it was forwarded internally, in our example, to Marco’s executives and accounts department. The criminals have also taken the company credit card details as part of the attack.
